make sure they have a valid ID so they can vote.. If they do not, get them one.. Send for that birth certificate/marriage license for them (if they cannot find it) or better yet, chip in with other family members and get them a passport.
Granny/Gramps/Aunt/Uncle/etc probably does not need another sweater, robe, pair of slippers,DVD player/duvet-set/whatever...but they might appreciate having the ID they may need to keep on voting.
There are those who rankle at the idea of having to HAVE "special" ID, but if the runaway republican legislature says they have to have it, why not just get it for them sooner, and worry about the dem leadership lawsuits...later.
The worst-case scenario is that they have a passport they may never travel with, or they have a state photo ID that they only need for voting, but it;s always better to have it and not need it, than to be hassled on election day and then be denied/.
I have no doubt that if people do get IDs, the republicans will just hatch a new scheme to try & suppress voting, but IF we happen to start getting more voters' votes counted, who knows?.....maybe we'd end up with more dems in office/...dems who could unravel some of these ridiculous laws or at least grandfather in people who have a record of having voted for years.
