#OWS: Let Me Tell You Wall Street Asshats a Little Something About Hippies
#OWS: Let Me Tell You Wall Street Asshats a Little Something About Hippies
byOne Pissed Off LiberalFollow

..............................

Let me tell you something about hippies. Hippies didn't export anyone's jobs, hippies didn't lie us into an immoral war, hippies didn't conspire to steal anyone's pension funds, hippies didn't order anyone tortured, hippies didn't steal so much that it crashed the economy of the entire world, and hippies don't go on national tv and spew nonsense and propaganda for a very nice living.

So go ahead and blame hippies for everything...as if they had ruled us for decades. We should be so lucky. But we weren't that lucky - not by a long shot. Instead, we got you.

..................

Hippies told you to mind your planet. Hippies told you to make love not war. Hippies told you to not let greed grab you. But did you listen?

No. You and your minions in Congress and elsewhere turned your backs on responsibility. You abandoned the people and sold your souls to the highest bidders. Consequences be damned.

...............

the rest (quite good mho, kpete & proud hippy/flower child)

well said! :applause:

Another choice clip:

Meanwhile, our bought-and-paid-for politicians can't do shit:

Global warming? Sorry.

Unjust wars? Nope, nothing to be done.

An oppressive and unjust Military Industrial Complex? C'est la vie.

Class warfare by the 1% against the 99%? It's only class warfare when we say it is.

The disastrous drug war? Whatcha gonna do?

Loss of precious civil rights? Quit yer bitchin'.

Mercenaries on the streets of America? What's to worry about?

Corporate takeover of the country? Yawn.

27. Please, listen.
99% of what happens on Wall Street goes to straightforward financial services. Savings are routed to investments and such as mortgage payments and ownership of assets are recorded with complete honesty.

99% of Wall Street workers are worker bees.

99% of these worker bees dress to the dress codes of their employers which go to "business casual."

99% of these worker bees lived through the collapse in 2008-2009 that saw 30,000+ jobs a month dropped from the financial industry.

--------------------

No one from Wall street was involved "lying us into war" in the Cheney-Feith scheme. War has devastated these "back office" and sales job 99%ers.

Occupy Wall Street is all about anti-crime reformation.

Financial capitalism's managers caused the Depression of 2008 -- that's where you need to focus.

35. I imagine that 99% of wall street WORKERS are part of the 99% in general
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 09:24 AM by av8rdave
But the wall street managers and money people are true criminals to the core.

Wall Street may not have lied us into war, but the managers and big money people there are inexorably tied to those who did. And they are a huge part of the biggest issue OWS is about: The huge and ever growing gap between the haves and the have nots. As we rapidly slide down the path to third world economic status (for most of us), we need to remember that the aforementioned criminals engineered it, and made sure that the vast majority of the population was excluded from their economic "success story."

Edited for spelling.

tells them they R the 'have$ and have-more$' and he make$ 'em crook$ his 'ba$e' (the 1% Champagne-$ippeR$)

If that's not enough for the 99% to clearly ID 'em cRook$, I don't know what will...

36. perpetual war
Yeah, we stopped Vietnam. But who'd have thought that the neocons would just go into hiding, only to crawl out decades later and declare war on the middle class in revenge?

That is what is so disheartenting, every day we have to fight off those who want to take public assets paid for by everyone and convert them to their own private wealth.

Then, when they have looted everything and there are no public assets left, they want to abolish government altogether.

8. What really bothers them? The hippies were RIGHT. About pretty much everything.

Go after the tie dye and the long hair all you want, rightwingers. It's not like Vietnam turned out to be a good idea. It's not as though civil rights was a flash in the pan. How're those nukes working out for everyone?

They were RIGHT, and they beat you. And their children and the people they inspired will beat you again.

57. It is entirely appropriate.
It literally means 'new hippie' just as neoconservative means 'new conservative'. Forgive me if you were already aware of this, but a surprising number of people don't know what the 'neo' prefix means. I didn't for a long time.

64. i am 65
was there the first time around... wondered when the world was going to catch up.. we were right on so many issues, the vietnam war, the influence of the military industrial complex, Earth Day, racism... when Obama was elected, i had hoped that the pendulum had peaked on the right, and suspected a sea change.. alas i'm disappointed..

last winter i cried real tears of gratitude, when is saw fire fighters wearing kilts, marching in to the capitol at Madison Wisconsin, bag pipes blaring.. at the same time watching Arab Spring on Al Jazeera.. wow just wow... i have seen progressive folks actually win in Wisconsin, and tyrants removed, by their people.. every time my heart swells

i have had the handle oldhippydude since coming on the internet in the mid 90's.. i am always perplexed about hippie spelling.. on another note my 65th birthday was Sept 17... what a hell of a birthday present!!!

65. I think hippy / hippie is spelled however you want , sir. A belated happy birthday.

I sure hope we're catching up with the national mood that started with Vietnam, civil rights, feminism.

It may not look exactly the same this time around, people taking peacefully to the streets is not a bad start.

14. Beautiful post!!!!! I grew up in a time when a handshake was a bond of honor.
I grew up in a time when a handshake was a bond of honor.

You bought a car and shook hands and you paid the person the agreed upon amount.

There was pride in being adult.
Now it's a sign of nievete and being an easy mark - falling for the con.

A contract used to be an agreement between two people.
Now, one lawyer puts loopholes in the contract so their client can back out.
The other lawyer is there to protect against his client being taken to the cleaners.

The Supreme Court was beyond reproach.
Now they are as bought as any other group - disgraceful!

We were tought to trust:
Parents
Police
Priests
Politicians
They were called "People in authority"
Now we know that power corrupts and we trust very few.

The younger people look down on us for believing that a life
lived with people whom we trust and support is "Fairyland Thinking"

It's a shame but having a corporate hierarchy help new employees learn the ropes and climb the ladder is way better then battering each other's brains out on a daily basis.

I retired last year and I'm glad I did.
Now I associate with people I can trust.
I can relax.
I can help others and not be taken advantage of.
I can speak honestly and not risk offending someone who controlls my pay.

If this is the life you youngsters want to live - God help you.
I like hugging each other and trust and sharing and family and friends.
It's a lot more fun and a lot more relaxing.
You can have your world if you like living in the middle of a war zone.
I have mine. I'll take a Margarita and a barbeque!!
You can say what you want to us old hippies - but you aint got what we got.
Know what - you can change your life whenever you want.
Your choice...

Night, night...

30. Hippies shared
We shared whatever food, drink and etc we had.
We let people crash on our sofas and floors if they needed shelter.
We gave people rides if we had a car.

It was an unspoken code of conduct: help one another.

Unfortunately our trust was broken by people who exploited us, ripped us off, robbed us or worse.
But when it worked, it was wonderful.

68. the vibe is not gone rant
I had the good occaison to be at a jam session in the hills with people from roughly 5 countries aged 11 to 80 takin turns playing and an old hippie about 65 from california was there and me and him were smokin a bowl like ricans as they call us here, pure weed, or pure hash, and chatting and groovin on the tunes, he looked to me, looked at the people jammin, looked at the furry people getting high outside the trailer the music was bein played in and got a great big smile, i asked what?? he told me that the vibe he knew in 65 and 66 in santa cruz and was still alive and well, halfway around the world, sure there were new things now, techno, mdma, and new fashion but the mix of music going on was pure magic in his worlds, imagine a french 11 year old girl getting on piano and playing with people who have earned their living playing for 30 years and a prodigy of 20 years of age, nervous and all, and lays down a sick sick long multi note off tempo loop piano line like you find in techno and hip hop?? (that is what the youth are into), teamed up with a reggae style rythym section (french loves their reggae) welsh on lead guitar and rythym, changes of rythym for a welsh rythym but now french lead guitar, a welsh woman siging and playing the oboe like in an opera good quality, an american on the clarinet, new people showing up all the time, kids spinning records when the older people are not playing the other instruments, old hippies tripping out on pot milk groving to techno music whit the yonger raver type kids and a whole bunch of bikers/rockers there grooving along too (even non smoker beer only types).... pure freak heaven!

seriously, neo hippies bikers and punks and techno raver kids have that same vibe, help everyone get along, share. at least the old school bikers and punks before those lifestyles got co opted for the fashion of it all; i was raised by a biker dad in the 80s and 90s and bikers had solidarity more than any group i knew back then, you would stop to help people broke down in cars, trucks and bikes (before cell phones and after most people had no cb anymore) because that is what you did, you helped, be it help fix the problem or help by putting them on the back of the bike and giving them a ride to the next service station (where a mechanic actually used to work)....

in the punk rock scene i have seen this too, not green day, think sex pistols, working class brits.... lots of us "marganized" people are marganalized because we share, are not greedy, and care about making others happy. i self identify as a hippie because i like the look better than that of a punk or a biker but i am really all 3, biker as a kid on dads bike, and punk rock fan and eternal hippie in that i am about peace, love, getting back to nature, respect etc.

my friends now range from 26 to 80 (i am 32) the least generous is the youngest one, the conventional friend i go biking with,) the other friends, artsy type with long hair who claims he isnt a hippie and hates dirty hippies yet wears jeans and t shirts and sandals all the time and is an artist (soldier dad must have had some doing there) and the older ones are bikers with a rocker or punk working class mindset. they are all generous, all of them are kind, we let each other crash out at our houses when our wives have kicked us out (not the straight friend, but the rest of us, we offer to be kind to the straight not freak guy and he is suspicious), if one of us has money problems and the other has a camper on their land we share for months at a time just because. if i go up the mountain to visit i call their kids first to see if they want a ride up from school to save their mom from coming down the hill, we share food and other stuff we grow in our gardens for free, every time i go to their houses i am offered a meal so i have learned to bring food too, taters, meat, but their kids prefer my cakes and cookies so i bring that, and their wife much prefers that to brining drink as lots of the local conventional types do and does not mind if i am sharing my herbes )

the kind of people that let an old 80 year old biker squat the entire 5 months of summer because he is retired, and it rains in wales and is sunny here by the med, so hey come on down and stay on an air mattress in the shed with your own gas stove and an extention cord but hey, dont cook meals man eat with the family, just make tea or whatnot on the stove, shit reggiedog, your wife kicked you out, stay in the guest house here on the estate that i am watching as the owners are not comin this year and i am in their house, shit you got money problems this year reggiedog and the owners are at the estate but our other buddy said you can stay in a camper on his plot of land up on the hill free of charge, there is even water from a long black hose heating in the sun to use to take a shower and a gas stove, but do come around for dinner most nights, dont want you to be lonely, plus the boys are coming over to play music, electric or acoustic it dont matter

hey man your neice needs work? they are hiring english assistants where i work,

bro you want help building your house? i am unemployed?? plus you let me crash in your camper too man?? need some help??? money???? your money is no good with me? i gonna help to help??? you feel you gotta give me sumthin?? you teaching me to build a house man...

pick up his friends at the airport and they insist on paying for gas, i refuse, they say they are proud people in wales and i ask if they are gonna play music, they are all great musicians and they say yeah so i say they are gonna entertain me and that is more than enough payment,

they jammed ever day they were in town, fucking magic some nights

i love living like this with friends like this

48. Here's to Hippies!
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 11:44 AM by leftyladyfrommo
I was one and I still am one.

Course I've been pretty poor most of my life. But it's no biggy. I'm used to living this way. Would feel weird any other way.

And I love flowers in people's hair.

And the smell of sandalwood.

And cotton India bedspreads.

And beads in the doorways.

And windchimes.

Yes!

Long live the hippies!
