Phase Two: Targeting SPECIFIC Corporations
It will soon become obvious that corporations are not shameless; they just haven't been shamed effectively before. The worldwide protests are going to deny corporate malefactors a haven. The shameful actions of members of the corporate elite will be exposed and denounced. Consumer boycotts will follow.

It's a smaller world than the one we've grown up in. Offenders can't just hide out in Singapore or Basel. Their names are going to be identified and they will face obloquy wherever they go. Public shaming will have real consequences.

Offenders Will Be Put to Shame

9. If the ultimate goal is to change legislation, then we need to pressure elected officials directly
and thru their owners. We need to let politicians know that we will not support them if they are supported by big corporations.

Senators Raise ‘Serious Concerns’ About State Department Study on Tar Sands Oil Pipeline
News — admin October 14, 2011 @ 4:58 pm
From the office of Senator Bernie Sanders:WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 – Three key senators today questioned the U.S. State Department about its dealings with a Canadian company seeking U.S. approval to build a crude oil pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. The State Department is responsible for deciding whether to approve the billion-dollar Keystone XL pipeline project. TransCanada, the company trying to build the pipeline, reportedly was permitted to screen private firms bidding to perform an environmental impact study.Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) wrote a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton raising what they called “serious concerns” about the matter. Their letter questioned why Cardno Entrix was picked to perform the critical study despite its significant financial ties to TransCanada.Continue reading “Senators Raise ‘Serious Concerns’ About State Department Study on Tar Sands Oil Pipeline” »http://www.tarsandsaction.org/

5. Millennials Show Some Political Muscle
The Millennials are coming of age. They are making their mark with this global protest action, and their power will only grow over the coming years. Politicians in their right mind won't stand up to them. Most recent casualty: Michael Bloomberg - forced to back down after making a direct threat.

The Millennials responded with the classic Dirty Harry line: Go ahead, make my day. And Bloomberg turned tail.

Oppose the Millennials at your peril.

4. Target-rich environment

I hope that any list for boycott/protest is prioritized with the worst offenders at the top. I'd hate to see our efforts 'diluted' to where new sympathizers and supporters are overwhelmed with requests so frequently that they throw up their hands in exasperation.

8. The Targets Are Choosing Themselves
Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 08:22 AM by SoDesuKa
I've maintained all along that there's no particular reason for the police to take an adversarial role against the Millennials. For instance, why is it necessary to throw people to the ground? The cops took on the Millennials voluntarily, and they're getting a massive black eye from it. They are behaving themselves a little bit better, but the cops are still not in line with what ordinary people have the right to expect.

Michael Bloomberg backed down because he knew that a show of force would not prevail. In fact, he was looking at a complete disaster, full of televised pictures of union workers with blood streaming down their faces. Lawsuits are already following the misguided attempt to beat the protesters into submission.

Who's next? The protesters aren't picking the targets, it's the other way around.

6. Any offshore tax evaders.
Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 07:52 AM by moondust
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Tax_haven

No two commentators can generally agree on a "list of tax havens", but the following countries are commonly cited as falling within the "classic" perception of a sovereign tax haven.

Andorra
The Bahamas
Bermuda (United Kingdom)
British Virgin Islands (United Kingdom)
Cayman Islands (United Kingdom)
The Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey (United Kingdom)
Cyprus
The Isle of Man (United Kingdom)
Liechtenstein
Mauritius
Monaco
Panama
San Marino
Seychelles
Switzerland
Turks and Caicos Islands (United Kingdom)

Non-sovereign jurisdictions sometimes labelled as tax havens potentially include:

Campione d'Italia an Italian enclave within Switzerland
Delaware
Jebel Ali Free Zone in the United Arab Emirates
Labuan, a Malaysian island off Borneo

10. Anti-Social Behavior
There was no downside to it when Carrier Air Conditioning left Syracuse, New York, after being there for generations. There should have been, and in the future there will be a global boycott of Carrier products.

The business climate in New York City isn't what you'd call ethical, but there's no Wal-Mart there either. The people have managed to keep them out.

13. Foxconn No-Suicide Pledge
We may see something like a Corporate Citizenship Seal of Approval, awarded or withheld by some respected group that meets and discusses such things. For instance, if American consumers had known about the Foxconn suicides earlier, they might have pressured Apple Computer to change suppliers. Foxconn may actually be a labour camp for enemies of the Chinese government.

The Foxconn deaths may have been a product of economic conditions in China during 2010. These conditions also led to several major strike actions at high-profile manufacturers in China. . . . . In response, Foxconn substantially increased wages for its southern China workforce, installed suicide-prevention netting, and asked employees to sign no-suicide pledges.

Workers forced to sign no-suicide pledges.
