Protesters Occupy Times Square, Police Arrest 74 Saturday
Thousands of Occupy Wall Street protesters occupied Times Square Saturday evening, crowding around barricades set up by police and mixing with Broadway tourists in a chaotic scene in the heart of Manhattan.

The demonstration – marked by protesters chanting “Banks got bailed out, we got sold out!” and police on horses trying to funnel the crowds out of the square – was the culmination of a dramatic day for the “Occupy” movement, in New York and around the world.

Earlier Saturday, demonstrators tromped through the streets of Manhattan’s financial district to protest the role that big banks played in the nation's financial crisis. As many as 1,000 protesters paraded to a Chase bank branch, banging drums, blowing horns and carrying signs decrying corporate greed.

Police have made 74 arrests in connection with the protests so far Saturday, said Paul Browne, the chief spokesman for the New York Police Department. He said demonstrators have been peaceful overall.
