6. That's only part of it.
That's only the section between 46th and 47th Streets. There's another section of Times Square, between 42nd and 43rd Streets, that was as filled.

What spawned some problems, was when people came from 46th Street to join the rally. I believe that police had underestimated how many people would attend, and things started spilling over into the streets, barricades got pushed, and all of a sudden about a million cops crawled out of the woodwork!
If you box people in, so that they cannot move, things will turn bad in a hurry. Once again NYPD is trying to make the Movement look bad, to serve their corporate masters.

9. Some comments on this picture.
I was standing on in the area south of the Tkts 'staircase', in the middle of the picture, on the camera side of the cars. The cars are travelling south on Seventh Avenue, which goes right through the middle of Times Square, about 3 or 4 blocks south of this picture. There was a lot of police action in the area toward the middle right of the picure, just below the 'New Girl' picture. At one point ten or twenty cops on horses showed up at that exact spot. We couldn't figure out what the hell was going on from where we were standing, but now I think I see. There are huge masses of people trying to get from the side street into the demonstration, but the sidewalks are completely clogged and the cops won't move the barriers and let people in (both sides of Seventh Avenue are lined with linked steel barricades, which you can see if you look closely). So I think what the NYPD managed to do, by criss-crossing the entire area with a maze of barriers and 'pens', is to make a gathering of tens of thousands, maybe a hundred thousand, look more like about seven thousand. I don't think the rank and file cops, from their demeanor today, are totally on board with this tactic, but someone high up in the chain of command is pretty fanatical about strictly limiting "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

11. That would make sense. They did split the protesters. An RT
reporter said she was with a huge group of protesters who were trying to join the main protest but the cops blocked them and they were never able to join up. They were trapped she said and she could not leave.

So, her description did make it sound like they were trying to split the crowds to make them look smaller.
