Took Three Generations Of The Family To Occupy Sacramento TodayWillyT
Today
The Occupy Sacramento encampment exists at, appropriately, Cesar Chavez Park, right across the street form City Hall.
After circling the park a couple time, honking our approval, and waving and giving thumbs-ups... we parked and joined in.
On walking into the park we were greeted and thanked for being there, we passed a food-line feeding the campers, the homeless, and just about any body who was hungry...
The main Occupy Sacramento tent was a sort of "headquarters" where they had the day's schedule of events, and where you could ask questions and get information... plus a couple of tents set up for people who wanted to communicate to the world through a free wireless connection powered by a generator 30 feet away.
There was an assembly of people preparing to role-play theatrically the current political arguments ongoing... there was another group surrounding various people giving their personal takes on what is wrong with the system, and what it might take to fix it.
There were bongo players, which were positioned right next to the yoga class, which actually was awesome. Never thought about bongo yoga before... but it did look inviting.
There was a police presence, but it was minimal... a couple of parked police cars, about four bicycle cops, and a few motorcycle cops around the perimeter of the park.
But it was wonderfully peaceful. A central fountain was surrounded by hundreds of posters on the ground which were created on-site and free to use if you wanted to man a post on the street corner, or if you just wanted to walk around with one.
Cindy Sheehan was to arrive after we had to go, and as we left, more and more people were streaming in to attend.
If you have an Occupy near you, I'd invite you to show them your support:
