Democratic Party you had better think again. They'll vote for either one just to defeat Obama, bank on it.

9. Yep, I think so too.
Welcome to DU, ChandlerJr! :hi:

I think they love them a black conservative. What they hate is black politicians helping other black folks. Even if it's just in their imagination. That's why they despise Obama. They think he's taking their money and giving it to people they consider 'undeserving, lazy, useless, begging black folks.' They obsess about it. They sure don't have to worry about that with Brother Herman.

2. A few years ago I was told again and again that a black man was unelectable- even by Democrats

I think banking on some stereotypes paying off is not logical. What I think is logical is that Republican party voters will absolutely vote for who they believe will uphold what they consider to be Republican "values".

I think a lot of people at DU are grossly overestimating at least Cain's "blackness" in regard to how he is viewed by Republican voters. Now, Romney's "Mormon-ness" is another matter. I do think his religion will be a bigger hurdle than Cain's skin color but even then I don't think people are going to fight it in big enough numbers to make a difference.

3. Nah...the right-wing media has demonized Obama enough that they're
just as much slaves to the old "lesser of two evils" principle as anyone else!

4. A number of years ago... I told a friend that Barack Obama

would be our first black president. He said that this country would "never elect a man whose middle name was Hussein".

Hahaha, Steve. I was right, wasn't I? :)

eta: this was in 2006 that I told him that.

5. I think more smug talk like this will fuel more tea party support of Cain
If you are still laughing at the tea party remember 2010

Cain has been speaking at tea party events for over 2 years and they didn't seem to have a problem with his color
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12RZ3FUlBCI

He is the Koch brothers' fav candidate some say

Like him or not his life story does tell the so called American dream father janitor mom cleaning women working to send their kids to college and have a home then he works for the Navy while finishing his masters degree . Big success in corp America. blah blah and this appeals to the older folks - tea party or not - IMO

I remember someone laughing at the tea party when I said I was afraid of them and he said "you are as crazy as them - nothing to fear" = 1 year later he didn't laugh when his area got a new house rep in 2010
Maybe you have heard of him- Joe Walsh!!!
He was stunned this teabagger could win but I wasn't and thats the NW suburbs of Chicago we are talking about that had a democrat incumbent.
True it is an upper middle class mostly white area and Walsh is white but do not underestimate the teaparty or Cain

6. Herman Cain will not get the Republican't nomination.
Edited on Fri Oct-14-11 11:19 PM by catabryna
I say that as surely as I can say that the suffix portion "9666" of my apartment complex's phone number is not a sign that the anti-Christ is my neighbor.

10. I hope he does.
He will not win the independent vote. No freaking way. Once he gets the nomination, his campaign is doomed.

8. So you're saying Romney/Cain will split the GOP and bring in a RW third party candidate?
I'm with you so far, but I'm not seeing any downside.

11. I think they will. They just want a republican in the WH. I think they would prefer
Cain to Romney only because Romney did a lot of things as governor that they don't like. A lot of people have accused republicans of being racists who hate Obama because he is black, but I've never bought that argument. They hate all democrats. They are also suspicious of any republican who even thinks of working with us or who ever did anything slightly left of center in their lives. That's why they don't like Romney, IMO.
