How can we encourage arab youth to a renaissance of science, technology and innovation? Because they used to be very good in those fields and still are when given the right education.

4. But do the Syrians know that Jobs was adopted and he refused to meet his Syrian birth father?
Seen it on a TV special last week.
The birth mother gave Jobs up for adoption after her father would not allow Jobs' father marry her.
Over the years Jobs' father contacted him a few times and wanted to meet up to talk, but Jobs never would reply to him.
It wasn't his father's fault, and in my opinion Jobs should have took the time to see him.

7. That was COLD. ICY cold of Jobs.
The father seemed decent. He wanted nothing but to meet his son, once.

8. For some people, meeting their birth parents satisfies an emotional hole. For others
it brings fear that one will be created. I've known people who have elected to meet their birth mother or father or both with disastrous results. (And I've known others with very satisfactory results.)

10. I don't see how you can pass a moral judgement on Jobs' handling...
of this unless you were living his life.

He had all the family he ever needed or knew in his life, and I'm sure he loved them.

Just because you share genetic material with a stranger doesn't mean they can force themselves on you.

11. the thing was i think Jobs DID meet with his birth mother, and he developed a relationship with his
biological sister(both his birth parents married later though divorced now).

he first developed the relationship with his sister and that's how he ended up meeting his bio mother. my guess is his reasons for not meeting with the bio father had to do with what his bio sister told him.

16. His father is the man who raised him. Anyone else is just a sperm donor.

5. We can't, and until they can throw off the shackles of a 6th century
backward religion and have a reformation they can't either.

It's just the truth of the matter. As much as the Xian fundies like to think that they have much influence on our society they really don't. Much to our benefit.

people who are worldwide heroes. I am canadian. It means a great deal. You carry them with you while you are growing up. It helps to form your identity. The arab youth have Steve Jobs right now. The poor also have radical islam paying for their indoctrination with free food and islamic education. Which would you rather the world persevere on. Obama made a point of talking about the histoy the ME had in the sciences going way back when he gave his speech in Cairo a few years ago. It all ties in to how people see themselves and what they grow up dreaming.

15. By we I meant the world. The state department. I'm sure they have
lots of ways they would like to combat radical islam. So the kids have a new totem? I come from a small country, Canada, and certainly made heroes out of anyone who made it in the outside world. Steve Jobs didn't just make it - he changed the world. How do you get the kids to follow up on this pride and how do you make sure there are jobs for them if and when they graduate from university? Because right now many egyptians travel the world to find jobs in the sciences. Obama mentioned the arab history with the sciences in his speech in cairo.
