Excerpts from the San Diego Daily Transcript story:
The Twitter accounts of both the San Diego County Republican Party and its chairman were suspended this week after the local Democratic Party alerted the social networking site that the GOP leader was making false accounts for Democratic candidates…
“I think that this is how you run a campaign. The first thing you should do is register the name on Twitter,” Krvaric said. “They didn’t.”
While Krvaric said he considers Twitter accounts as being similar to domain names, Twitter apparently doesn’t agree. In their letter of complaint to the social networking site, the Democrats’ cited Twitter’s policy, which defines impersonation as “pretending to be another person or entity in order to deceive.” The policy continues: “Impersonation is a violation of the Twitter Rules and may result in permanent account suspension.”
The claim that “the first thing you should do is register” is even more ridiculous considering the fact that several of the impersonatees DO have Twitter accounts. Krvaric said he did not send any tweets from the account but since they’ve been removed nobody has been able to verify that contention.
