Miss Nebraska Wins!

Miss Nebraska Becomes Youngest Miss America
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20458100,00.html

Miss Nebraska, who answered a question about Wikileaks, calling it espionage and saying that
government security is more important than the public's right to know, wins.

Need we say more?
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20458100,00.html

sorry Nebraska, I believe she is the one on the right?
The interviews. Miss Nebraska was asked about Wikileaks and "how do we balance the people's right to know with the need of government security?" She answers that Wikileaks is about espionage and the security of the nation is more important than people's right to know.

..............

Miss Delaware and Miss Utah. (Ms. Utah's opening line: "Tonight 53 women share a dream, not a husband." Was she registering a complaint against "Big Love"? ) Or how about Miss Iowa: "Leading the state in ethanol production, my state gives you gas."

14. A lot of men and women start out on one path then change course.
Jerry Brown studied and came close to being ordained as a Jesuit Priest. There are other examples in business and public life where people started out with deeply religious backgrounds but became agnostics. The woman is 17. She may well develop into a Sarah Palin clone, or she could very well end up being the first real liberal democratic governor of Nebraska. She is too young and unformed by life experiences for one to predict how she will turn out politically, but I admit her future worldview don't look terribly promising.

24. +1
I earned a graduate degree from seminary and had served in the ministry for a few years before I rediscovered my natural atheism.

She's only 17 years old, not even fully formed. Give her a few years and let's see what she becomes.

And FFS why on earth would they ask a question about Wikileaks? Would audience members of these trainwrecks even know what a Wikileak is?

9. She is only 17.
At least she wasn't as confused as that Miss SC candidate a few years ago...."such as..."

Those girls never give lefty answers... it would probably disqualify them!

11. I never watch pageants.....
Why would I possibly care who a panel of judges deems to be more talented and beautiful than all others? The premise alone is exclusive. I have seen pageant parents and what they do to their kids. I wouldn't do that to my kid for any amount of money.
Dressing a six year old up to look like a friggin hooker seems immoral to me. They don't need make-up, they're still into make-believe! Let em be kids! I see adult pageants as just an extension of these exploitations because a lot of the pageants have been doing it since they were children. I feel sorry for them, I really do, and I will never be a party to advocating such behavior.

12. Gabrielle Giffords registered as a republican upon turning 18.
And maintained that registration for 11 years before concluding that she could no longer stomach the republican worldview and re-registered as a democrat. It should be noted that Scanlan plans to register as an independent in deeply republican and red Nebraska. Maybe the one year that she will have away from home will change Scanlan for the better. Possibly her going to the college that she plans to attend will turn her stomach on that college's worldview. What I know is that at 17, she is very much an unfinished book. Maybe she will become a beautiful, rightwing talking head bent on controlling other people's lives. Or maybe she will see the light and like Giffords, move to a saner worldview.

The third question is for Miss Nebraska and it is "How do we balance the people's right to know with the need of government security?" She talks about how the security of the nation is more important than people's right to know. She just lost Joy Behar's vote. :spray:

:patriot: :sarcasm:

In her video package talking about being a young woman today, Miss Arkansas talks about how advantageous it is that she is "racially ambiguous." It was ... a weird thing to say.

:wtf:

Miss Iowa: "Leading the state in ethanol production, my state gives you gas." I'm so proud to be an Iowan tonight.

Miss Utah: "Tonight 53 women share a dream, not a husband." That reminds me -- set the DVR for "Big Love."

Miss Colorado tells Brooke Burke that had she made it, she would've tap danced to "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton. I am extraordinarily sad we missed out on that.

:spray:

Miss Arkansas is a yodeling ventriloquist with two (count 'em, two) dummies while wearing a red sparkly strapless jumpsuit.

And lots of people claim that she got ROBBED???????? The "racially ambiguous" comment prolly confused the dimwit judges to begin with, and the sparkly jumpsuit sealed her fate IMO. She is very attractive though, which is more than I can say about 60-70% of the usual MA contestants.

21. "racially ambiguous". I hope you ere just being sarcastic.
Racially ambiguous means that a person can cross back and forth between the two groups of their racial makeup without issues. I watched the finalist selection for 10 minutes. I took Miss Arkansas as a white brunette until her comment was made. I looked closer and she looked like a tanned white. I missed the yodeling part. Glad that I did.

16. These pageants all seem to come up with the most mediocre
entrant as the winner. How many years has it been since we had someone who was smart enough to think?

19. Outdated crap
I went over to my grandmother-in-law's house, and she had it on. I was thoroughly embarrassed, watching that contrived garbage. I left grandma's as quickly as possible. She only lives three miles from us, so I can see her any time.

25. What does it say about us….

that a girl just 17 years old is suppose to instill or set the standard as to how beauty and women are defined in America?

What is the median age of women in this country? I bet it is a lot higher than 17. And its probably less blond too.

I've never been a big believer in these kinds of contests. Sorry.
