Where are the Independents?
A recent post by Zorra ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=2084473&mesg_id=2084473 ) began with the following comment:

Most of we OWS participants/supporters are Democrats, or are left leaning Independents that usually vote Democratic.

In response, I posted Many of us are Independents who have to lean right to vote Democratic. n/t

This comment received many more replies than my average OP. Apparently lots of DUers feel this way, and DUer defendandprotect went so far as to extend this sentiment to People in OWS. Look at the voting bloc out there on the streets -- !! It has "no place else to go" ... ????

This is consistent with my belief that the Democratic Party has moved to the center-right compared to just a few years ago.

More interesting is the idea that many/most Independents are not - as they are so often portrayed to be - somewhere between Democrats and Republicans, but left of the Democrats. The idea that the general population has shifted right is a product of a bought-and-paid-for "free" press.

Thought? I welcome your insights.

2. However that line of thinking will lead to less voting in 2012 and more butt kissing of repukes
when they gain control of the senate and maybe presidency.

Nice work.

3. 21% of the voting population when polled...

...self-identifies as 'liberal'.

There's this 'dark matter' of politics, about which people constantly theorize -- that horde of silent, invisible, but naturally socialist voters just waiting to be drawn into the process by a left-enough Democratic party.

It may not be out there. It certainly is no more to be found with existing equipment than the dark matter of physicists.

DU is just not normal, in the non-judgmental use of the word.
