MAKE RIOT COPS WEAR FOOTIE STYLE NUMBERS

20th April 2009
By Josh Layton

CAMPAIGNERS are demanding riot cops have numbers on their uniforms like footballers to identify them.

The calls were made amid mounting claims of brutality at the London G20 rally, where officers hid shoulder ID.

Lawyers for the Camp for Climate Action condemned “violent” police tactics.

One cop seen lashing out at protestor Nicola Fisher, 35, outside the Bank of England had no badge number.

The basic idea: instead of trying to read the badge number on a cop's chest during the... "excitement" of a protest rally/pepper-spraying/tasering/baton-beating, or depending on blurry and grainy cell-phone photos/video to ID cops, just put them in a police jersey with their badge number on the back in foot-high letters.

Or those blaze-blue or blaze-orange reflective vests some of them like to wear... put a number on the front and back during riot duty. Ta-da!

Kick and rec if you think the NYPD is too cowardly to do this.

And yes, I'm begging for kicks and recs

ETA: clarify the "footie" thing... hey, it's a British article

Well, it's a British paper.

Maybe it'll attract the cosplay people to this thread too...

4. Sponsorship logos would be a nice touch, too. JP Morgan Chase, for starters.

8. They already get people in trouble because apparantly people can't videotape them...
...during the performance of their duties due to some obscure wiretapping law.

I think that was Florida, but it probably applies in other states.
