We all know what's coming next...
The Police in New York are going to start killing the protesters.
They can't remove the leaders because it is a leaderless movement.
They can't provoke the protesters to be violent.
So it is logical for the police to ratchet up their violence to murder the protesters.
So the question: What then?
I don't know about you all, but watching protesters getting beat up and teargassed and falsely arrested has got my blood boiling.
I can not imagine how intense it is for those on the ground.
Revolution can be a messy business.

1. If this happens it will not be in NYC.

2. Why do you say that? They're already beating people, macing 9 year old little girls, macing a deaf
woman and being as aggressive as they can be. Why do you say it wouldn't be in NYC?

that might happen, is if say someone, say for example, fired off some firecrackers. The cops might draw their weapons. What happens next depends on their training. I really don't get any of this. If people are protesting in an orderly fashion, why go into the crowd for random people and pull them out, while beating them. It makes no sense, unless someone on Wall Street wants them to be totally removed, and is willing to pay for it.

9. I think they are hoping for it to erupt into violence
Then, they have an excuse to shut it down. It has got to be hard to stand there and watch people get beaten with a night stick.

16. It is a tactic used to stop the protests...
Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 10:30 PM by CoffeeCat
The police are trying to make this an unpleasant experience, because they've been ordered to do so.

Did you hear that Goldman Sachs donated millions of dollars to the NYPD last year? Did you hear how
Bloomberg talked about the protesters just a few days ago--like the protesters had no right to be
there?

These people are taking on Wall Street. The elites and the establishment can't allow this thing
to grow. Right now, it's relatively small, but growing. They all fear it growing--and they'll
do everything possible to crush the protests before they reach critical mass.

So, they treat the protesters horribly and abuse them--which they believe will dissuade others
from joining. Also, they can position the protesters as violent, unruly and needing to be
arrested.

I think stuff like this will only make the movement grow.

17. You are right about that ...
Which is why it makes no sense. I am sure the right wing media felt if they ignored this, the protestors would get tired of it and go away. Fox news even ridiculed the movement as a bunch of people who wanted "Ponys". Because the cops have escalated the situation, its going to immediately bring in more people in support of the protesters.

This is like a snow ball rolling down hill, eventually there will be an avalanche.

19. BofA gave the cops several million bucks just before the protests
Do you -really- NOT understand why some of those cops are raring for a beat down at every opportunity?

10. I could not disagree with you more...
Take a look at this video of New York's finest and tell me this guy is not capable of killing protesters.

13. The OP is opining...I responded with an opinion.
Nobody knows what is going to happen in NYC or anywhere else. My opinion is that if there is killing it will not be in NYC. My opinion is it would be more likely to happen in places like Austin, TX or Florida.

Let's hope it does not happen anywhere.

4. Have you noticed, no NYPD in riot gear? isn't that strange
in this day and age. the mounted cops seem to be wearing helmets but the ones on the street appear to be wearing standard uniforms
I'm on the west coast so maybe I'm just missing something. Even SFPD wears combat light for most protest marches. What gives?

7. Maybe it's short notice
Yeah, you're right, the cops are almost always in full riot gear in preparation for protests like this these days. Maybe they didn't have enough time to suit up.

6. For true change, OWS will turn violent and ugly unfortunately
Tea Partiers carried weapons, OWC is subject to planned violence.

21. Doesn't have to be
The Tea Partiers carrying weapons did not cause violence in any way, so why assume OWC is subject to planned violence?

Very few cops seem to know how to speak clearly into their radios also is my other observation. :

12. I'd put my money on some kind of false flag incident
Even as arrogant as they've become, they will still want an excuse to give the public if they have to start a massacre. Something going kaboom on Wall Street, perhaps, or shots fired from the general direction of the protesters. Some kind of excuse that they can sell as "protester violence". I'm actually surprised that this hasn't happened yet.

14. So far, their violence and trickery (700 arrested) has
backfired. If they start killing, they are really going to have to institute a policy where they will kill anyone who does X (given X is peaceful and legal) and show the protesters they are serious about it. A couple of random "accidental" deaths will backfire for NYPD.
