Back in the early nineties two teachers from each state was chosen to be honored back in Washington DC. I was a Commercial Fisherman living in a small community called Elfin Cove. There was a write up in the Juneau Empire (Local paper) about how well the teachers were being treated and it went on to describe part of their menu. One of the highlights was Norwegian Farmed Salmon.. At that time our Salmon industry was suffering a bit but still was/is considered the very best in the world, for both quality and quantity. Anyway to get on with the story, when that article came out I saw red and sat down and wrote letters to the President of the USA and to both my Senators, Stevens and Murkowski (Lisa's father) and our lone Congressman Don Young. I ranted about buying foreign products when American products were better and in more need. Of course it made no difference in any way, but I did get to express my mind, anyway I received replies back from Stevens and Clinton and eventually from Murkowski. The Murkowski letter was delayed because it was addressed to Elephant Cove, Arkansas. From my Alaskan Senator... The ONLY reason I got it at all was the zip code. I still have all those letters and not a single one of them addressed my concerns.. Not a one..I didn't hear a thing from my "Representative".
