USA media more becoming like Soviet Pravda.
I scanned the headlines of the main US press sites to see how much coverage Occupy Wall St. (OCW) is getting.

Of the main media, CNN and Fox "News" are conspicuous by their absence of any front page reporting of OCW. Local NY media will cover it, even if the NY Post's angle is about some hippies disrupting traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge. Other main outlets, exception of NBC, do report on OCW but it is not a lead story.

Googles' News Search engine has the story front and center. AOL since it's been Huffpo'd, has it front and center. Even Yahoo! who mainly gets its news from AP has it on the main yahoo.com page.

So why do the BBC, Sky News, France 24, Russia Today, The Age, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, have them as lead stories, and other English news outlets report the event?

Why must I turn to international media to find out what really is going on in my adopted homeland - the United States of America ??? I thought we had a free press.

4. Not trying to insult, but you must be very young...
...if you think this started with Dubya. It's been like this in this country for generations. The mainstream press (and the police) do what they're told...and they always have.

14. Maybe so, but Bush is responsible for the final straw as far as I am concerned.
Not convinced that he and his VP were not responsible for 911 and am certainly not certain that they didn't cause the financial melt down either. We do know that Cheney has admitted to torture in his book, and no one has even blinked about that in our Administration. WTF is it going to take to bring charges against the past mis-administration for their crimes?

11. It's been a gradual progression for decades. In the 60's it started to feel a
little freer, but it's been clamped down on again. IMO Bush highlighted how far the suppression/repression has come in this country, and he and Cheney did what they damn well pleased and most of the American public was played for suckers.

As another poser mentioned the cops have been beating on people for years as the enforcers of TPTB and the Oligarchy.

I'm waiting for the McCarthy trials to come back again if the R's get full power.

As you said, we're heading toward a corporate theocratic fascist state.

This was posted a few days ago, I thought it was pretty interesting. Imagine where we will be if one of these idiots gets in.

5. Unfortunately this is
OLD news....at least the readers of Pravda knew it was a bunch of crap...but I think the Americans are catching on.

NBC covered OWS tonight on the evening news. I was shocked.

6. I can't believe the networks don't cancel the rest of their programs to have a 24/7 live feed going
This is the most important story of the last century, we need continuous and unending coverage. Anything less is fascism.

7. I get my news anymore from Russia Today, BBC and Al Jazeera. I don't trust
America media and much of it is useless tabloid news. The media today reminds me of Russia during the cold war. I'm waiting for the next step to be to put on the US Internet the equivalent of jamming for radio stations during the cold war.

The masses of this country are so propagandized and many are too clueless to get it ...

8. The corporations control the media and the message. Pravda is controlled by the state. Of course
now a days many will argue that the corporations also control the government

17. Yep, it's getting difficult anymore to tell where the corporations stop and
the government begins. They are getting pretty much synonymous. And we have endless revolving doors between gov. and corp. for TPTB.

15. Becoming? It's always been this way.
It's shocking when you read old labor history and you hear the New York Times ranting about communist and anarchists decades before the Russian Revolution.
