Paul criticizes Obama on al-Awlaki killing
By: CNN Political Producer Rachel Streitfeld

September 30th, 2011

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul criticized President Obama Friday for "assassinating" al Qaeda operative Anwar al-Awlaki, saying that the American-born Muslim cleric should have been tried in a U.S. court.

Al-Awlaki, who preached terror as the public face of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, was killed in Yemen Friday when an airstrike hit his motorcade, a Yemeni government official said. A "successful joint intelligence-sharing operation" between Yemen and the United States led to the attack that killed al-Awlaki, a Yemeni government official said Friday. snip

"Let there be no doubt. We have to be vigilant, we have to protect the U.S. and U. S. citizens from terrorist attacks, and we have to aggressively pursue those who would do us harm. At the same time we cannot allow the War on Terror to diminish our steadfast adherence to the notion of due process for American citizens," he said. "The protections under the Constitution for those accused of crimes do not just apply to people we like - they apply to everyone, including a terrorist like al-Awlaki. It is a question of due process for American citizens."

It is because talk is cheap. If he doesn't put his money where his mouth is after talking this kind of shit it should demonstrate to his whack job supporters what kind of punk ass shithead they are supporting.

3. Nancy "impeachment is off the table" Pelosi has made it clear
she supports the neocon agenda. So what's the point?

4. I could care less about Ron Paul or his supporters as some sort of compass
or wedge point in any discussion the left itself might be still trying to have about this.

5. RP is right. Also, when you kill one of these guys, you radicalize like 50 more. It will never end.
Never until we get out of the ME and transition as much as we can to alternative energy sources.

8. It's a sad day for this country when Ron Paul is the only one
in government that is right, which he is in this case about the effect of assassination.

9. Agreed.
I don't hate Ron Paul. I don't agree with most of what he says however, I have to hand it to him, he is the only anti-war candidate out there. He deserves that peace prize more than 3 War + Drones Obama.

"look good" and "deprive the GOP of terror talking points"...

just like on Libya: sure, the GOP is being ragingly hypocritical--but their accusation HAD a leg to stand on: only Congress can approve of, er, "dynamic military movements"
