Oshkosh - Angry about increased health care costs and workplace issues, employees of Oshkosh Corp. on Friday soundly rejected a proposed five-year labor agreement. The vote tally was not made public, but UAW Local 578 officials said the contract was turned down by 84% of the voting members.
The union represents more than 3,000 Oshkosh employees, most of whom make trucks for the U.S. military. Union officials said they have pre-authorized a strike but have not yet called for it. About 2,800 of the employees voted on the contract.
"Nobody wants to go on strike, but you have to stand up for what's right," said Dale Allen, who has worked 28 years at the truck factory. "I have been involved in quite a few contracts, and this was absolutely the worst I have ever seen," he added.
Company officials said the proposed contract was their best and final offer. Oshkosh Corp. spokesman John Daggett said the company was disappointed in the outcome. Overall, "we felt the proposed contract was very fair,
especially in today's market conditions," Daggett said.

Emphasis mine. The corporations have us where they want us - desperate for jobs. One must admire the courage of the Union members for standing up for what's right.
This company is plenty profitable, raking in taxpayer money from defense contracts. America needs this money in the hands of American workers, not international investors.
