So much for prayfest for rain in Texas... 9 more years of drought predicted
The devastating Texas drought that has already cost over $5 billion could continue for nine more years, predicted Texas State Climatologist John Nielson-Gammon in an interview with Reuters yesterday.......

1. God doesn't love Rick Perry
Nearly as much as Rick Perry thinks God does.

Too bad the rest of Texas has to suffer for Rick Perry's sins.

13. Really ???

Perry didn't build one reservoir during his "fat" years as governor.

Now comes the lean.

Remember Joseph and the Pharoah's dreams ?

17. If I believed in god, I'd have to believe he has a sense of poetic justice
The oil that came from the ground in Texas, which was burned in Texas SUVs, created greenhouse gases, which created AGW, which is now scorching the earth in Texas.

Oh wait, that's not god, it's science, which Rick Perry doesn't believe in.

2. I read several months ago that the 30 year outlook is for mostly
the same: hotter and drier. And this is with a growing population. I think it's going to get bad.

3. Oh dear, please let this be a typo.
When's the last time since the Dust Bowl era that anywhere in America has suffered anywhere close to a 10 year long drought?

12. Texas had a severe many-year drought across the 1950's
As true of the current drought, the 50s drought was characterized by record lack of rain and high temperatures. That drought began in 1949 and continued 'til 1957.

It seems like parts of Arizona and Oklahoma have been in drought since 2001.

Okay, thank you for clearing that up.
Still, given that, it'd still be the worst drought we'd suffered since the Cold War era if it really did continue for that long.

19. There is a great book about Bear Bryant and Texas A&M in the 50's.
The kids would practice in extreme heat on cracked ground.

15. Too true! In my area
we've had more rain from this last storm than we had from TS Irene.

I live in the Hilltowns. The water is literally running down the sides of hills in rivers that should not exist. Small streams turned into torrents. My gravel driveway is being washed away.

If this continues through the winter and the temps are cold, we're going to get hammered with snow.

22. I think that the ability to move water around-to quickly capture it, & put it into
"water tankers" & filter it & then cache it in places with less water, will become a mainstream job-source. Whenever I see floods on tv & online I always think what a waste to let that water go.

23. Water is heavy
It takes a lot of energy to move it against gravity.

6. Welcome to the new world that, according to Republican politicians, doesn't exist.
Reality, though, arrives whether politicians believe in it or not.

8. I read this yesterday, too. Poor Texas.
There's not going to be any Texas left. Just a huge burned up piece of desert with oil fields.
