Is it just the poor that "make bad choices"? Send them a note telling them you want to know their score.

See who responds.

Jenny Nicholson is tired of hearing how the poor are poor because they make poor choices. Let’s see what kind of choices you make when it’s your turn to be flattened by the economy.

That’s the idea behind Spent, an online game Nicholson created to challenge popular misconceptions about poverty. Play it at http://www.playspent.org/

So far, it’s been played more than a million times by people from around the world. And Nicholson is challenging every member of Congress to play it, too.

1. The comments on this article at Marketwatch are very telling.
Wall street investors going on and on about poor people are poor because they are lazy, immoral, stupid, and just plain not-as-worthy. The most entertaining are those suggesting that poor people will just take their handout money and go to the casino. That's so much different than taking your tax cut money and buying stocks.

Even the creator of the game jumped into that thread to slam some of the sweeping generalizations and minimization of the struggles the poor endure.

2. Oh yeah... I'm going to let my kids go hungry so I can gamble the money away
The difference between a govt. subsidy and a welfare handout is: The govt. doesn't drug test subsidy recipients.

3. heh! Actually I think the difference is
You can barely buy groceries on welfare; you can run a multinational corporation on subsidies.
