How Sarah Palin should have handled the Tucson tragedy
Call me astounded at the way Sarah Palin manages to become part of some of the biggest events of the day.

<skip>

What if Palin had responded in the first day or two with a brief statement, no video. Something like:

Like all Americans, I am horrified by the terrible events in Tucson. The victims and their families are in my prayers, and my family’s prayers. It has come to my attention that some people are concerned about a graphic associated with my campaign. I reject the notion that vigorous campaign activity is responsible for this tragedy. Nevertheless, I am removing the graphic from my Facebook page. I urge people in the media and the blogosphere to let the authorities do their jobs so that we can respond to this event with facts, not speculation. In the meantime, let us keep the focus where it belongs — on the victims and the heroes who have emerged in this story.

Release the statement and then maintain a respectful silence.

3. ugh no! I disagree
trying to make the day all about her with that video was bad enough, can you imagine the type of stunt she might try with a stadium full of people and all those cameras watching? :puke:

5. Does she hold some job or position that would warrant her presence there?

9. And what would she have done once she got there?
I can't imagine Tucson sitting still for an in-person "blood libel" rant.

20. I was thinking that she would have a revelation, admit she was wrong
Sit in the back and shutup. Like I said, it could never happen.
Didn't mean to rile you guys.

18. No, there was no reason for her to be there
She had, at least to my knowledge, no connection to any of the victims. The President, Az's Senators and others were there representing the government - in respecting and honoring those killed and injured.

This is not even about Palin - turn it around and imagine this was two years ago, assuming that none of them knew anyone, I would have said the same of Clinton, Obama, and Edwards.

4. I honestly don't know what she is supposed to be to me, as an ordinary American.
She's a failed VP candidate, she quit halfway through her term as governor of a not-terribly-significant state I never lived in, and pops up on TV for a variety of reasons--mostly as entertainment, because she has nothing important to say and isn't an expert in anything except herself. I don't know why she's constantly in my face, and I don't know why she's constantly held up as the President's equivalent on the other side of the political fence.

14. She's nothing more than a celebrity. Odd, since many on the right say that celebrities should keep
their mouths shut when it comes to politics.

That would have been the only decent thing for that whack job to do.

...and it's probably why Palin didn't do something like that!! She doesn't impress me as an adult, she seems to be more like a teenage girl....

13. It was a scumbag thing to do. What else can you say about someone who would choose the day of the
services to stomp her feet and make it about herself. Sickens my stomach. Why is she any different than fred phelps(?) a nut that likes publicity at funerals.

16. All she needed was seven words: "I'm sorry. I was wrong. I apologize."
Sadly, that's never going to happen.

never back down on her own stupidity. It's always going to be us vs them in her mind.

22. Much like Bush she doubles down on her own stupidity. Chasing her losses I guess. She'd be a lot

better off if she knew when to shut up.

21. That would require keeping her trap shut. and forefieting whatever political points she had hoped to

gain with her condescending "speech".

And we all know the Grifter is incapable of both.

And watched re-runs of DWTS. We would have all been better off if she stayed at home and bothered Tawd.
