The Counterculture & Physics / Grassroots UFOs
Date: 09-18-11
Host: George Knapp
Guests: David Kaiser, Jack Sarfatti, Fred Alan Wolf, Sue Swiatek

Quantum based encryption, computing, and teleportation are among the hottest topics in physics and engineering today. Yet many of these core ideas once found their home amid an anything-goes counterculture frenzy—a mishmash of spoon-bending psychics, Eastern mysticism, LSD trips, and CIA spooks chasing mind-reading dreams. In the first half of the program, George Knapp welcomes Dr. David Kaiser, along with Dr. Jack Sarfatti and Dr. Fred Alan Wolf, to discuss how the hippies saved physics.

In the latter half, MUFON Virginia state director, Sue Swiatek, will discuss the work of John Timmerman, who ran a traveling UFO exhibit where thousands of ordinary people relayed their UFO sightings and experiences.

3. Well, there was nothing like having a couple of acid trips under your belt
to get you to question just about everything the sage men in the expensive suits had told you was so. Once everything had been blown apart by that experience, you knew it wasn't just so, that there were always alternative explanations.

Most of those explanations were silly beyond belief, but the attitude stuck and people kept looking for explanations outside established but unproven theory.

It's just fortunate it all happened about the time that "bang two rocks together" particle physics was getting started. As things got weirder and weirder, the weirdos coped with it about the best.

Hippies--right about so much. No wonder they all hate us.

4. QED
Quantum electrodynamics is both beautifull and weird theory, much delearning of "rational" thinking required. It explains very much, including chemistry, but not nuclear physics and gravity - and consciousness.

Anti-philosophical attitudes of the so called sceptic movement are not helpfull for the task of delearning consciouss and subconsciouss presuppositions that are in the way of combining QED with the rest of known and unknown unknowns.

5. ksfo will archive the show for about a week
go to www.ksfo.com
click on "Podcasts"
then "7 day archive"
then "sunday"
then download 10pm and 11pm for the first two hours
then "monday" 12am and 1am for the second two hours
although I think the second two hours were about something else.

One whale of a book, back in '76. Outstanding in every way. Outstanding.
