So, Poppy bailed out the "Dick"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/8205236/Nigeria-drops-corruption-charge-against-Dick-Cheney.html

Mr Cheney, who was chief executive of Halliburton between 1995 and 2000, and three other bosses were last week charged with bribery by Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The company itself and four related businesses were also charged. It is alleged that bribes were paid to Nigerian officials to secure contracts for the construction of a liquefied natural gas plant in the Niger delta.

Nigerian newspapers reported on Wednesday that the charges had been dropped after a deal was struck with help from George H.W. Bush, the former US President.

Femi Babafemi, a spokesman for the EFCC, said: "They have made offers of fines to be paid in penalties. They offered to pay $120 million in addition to the repatriation of $130 million trapped in Switzerland." He reportedly added later: "I can tell you authoritatively that an agreement has been reached." James Baker, the former Secretary of State, was also said to have intervened in the negotiations.

Here's hoping Jim Baker is going to be a very busy Bushco atty in the coming years.

Nigeria's anti-corruption police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said it met officials representing Cheney and Halliburton in London last week, according to the Guardian.

"There was a plea bargain on the part of the company to pay $250 million as fines in lieu of prosecution," Femi Babafemi, a spokesman for the EFCC, told the newspaper.

Several Nigerian newspapers reported that former President George H.W. Bush and James Baker, former secretary of state, took part in the negotiations with Nigerian officials, the Guardian said.

1. Ah, the B&B twins (Bush & Baker)
Whenever there's a fire to put out (or a fire to start), send in the B&B twins.

Their motto is "Plata o Plombo"

6. Silver or Lead
Take this bribe to make up for the lack of substance in the first bribe, let Dick go and we'll call it even.

3. What would be a fitting punishment for them in Hell?
That all of them get locked into a room with each other and no one else with not enough sustenance to go around so they always feel excruciating pangs of hunger. Lock them in and throw away the key and let them battle it out for eternity.

7. That was really for junior's sake. Cleaning up junior's messes has been a lifelong chore.
Cheney had the money to get out of it on his own.

11. As much as I hate that fucker, I heard from a friend that corruption is a way of life in Nigeria.
There is absolutely no way to get anything done in Niger without a)bribing someone or b)using a connection to bypass rules. It's the price of doing business, even if it personal business.

12. James Baker. Wow.
How much of this intrigue that keeps this country off balance do you suppose will come to an end the day he retires from his spooklike role in International affairs?
