Thom Hartmann on the “Becking” of America
http://www.cognitivepolicyworks.com/2011/01/12/thom-hartmann-on-the-becking-of-america/

y Joe Brewer on January 12, 2011 in Communication, News, Political Mind

In order to challenge the rise in violent rhetoric in America, we need to label it in a concrete and memorable way. Chip Berlet presents an attempt to do this in The Becking of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

This interview with Thom Hartmann explains the term and challenges the false frame of equivalency that attempts to paint liberals and conservatives as being equally responsible for the rise in violence in public discourse.

1. Bill Maher said it best on Jay Leno the other night.
"When we hear about a compound of armed people out there in a desert, or a country side, nobody suspects that this is a crowd of Democrats. Nobody is going to say: Now I know what Dennis Kucinich is up to".

3. Precisely. The right talks about second amendment "solutions"
the left talks about a department of peace.

4. I've always wondered why Dr. Tiller's family never brought a lawsuit

against O'Riely and Fox. The Doctors was NOT a political figure. He was providing a legal medical procedure. Can O'Riely and Fox just pick a name out of a hat and start calling the private citizen names such as murderer? Can he decided he doesn't like someone's looks and falsely accuse them of murder and other crimes and get away with it?

How do these people get away with encouraging the murder of common citizens and politicians?

5. Find a gimmick, or be honest, and forceful. I think eventually, honest and forceful
will work. Palin was intending to frame us. With Nazi's that instituted the holocaust. And the lies that dehumanized the Jews. That rhetoric is nothing but inflammatory. And she overshadowwed the real victims, and made the ambience of the funerals and mourning period, like a funeral that is cloaking itself against the Westboro crew. The Families of the slain, get to watch Palin serve what she intends to be the killer blow. The end all putting liberals and progressives into a nazi box. And all the rest of rightdom intends to double down on the hate and threat/fear.
