"I was hungry": Man broke into restaurant, used microwave, had explanation, say cops

(CBS/WBBM) MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. - A 20-year-old man broke into a suburban Chicago restaurant early Saturday morning, poured himself a soda, popped some chicken tenders in the microwave, and then stood stunned when the alarm went off.

Police say when they arrived at Mr. Beef & Pizza in Mount Prospect, they found the suspect, Hachem Gomez, in his boxer shorts, and he told them why he did it.

He was hungry.

Prospect Police Operations Cmdr. John Wagner said officers found damage to the drive-thru window of the fast-food restaurant and saw the suspect inside. Gomez, then went to front entrance, and unlocked the doors for the officers, according to CBS station WBBM. ...........(more)

2. That does not appear to be the case here, however.
This reads more like a bad case of the munchies.

3. I don't believe this fellow was actually starving.
I think he woke up at 3 A.M. and wanted something to eat, but didn't have anything immediately available. So, he did something about it. Not a good example of a starving person, really. Click the link.

9. This was not some starving homeless street urchin
This was some idiot who broke into a restaurant and stole food because he got up and was "hungry". Did you even bother to read the article?

4. The real crime is Hunger
As a liberal I view this incident as a commentary on the sad state of our nation. As poverty continues to increase while the super-rich get richer it’s hard for many of us to not sympathize with this man’s situation. The idea that in a nation of such wealth that anyone should go hungry is obscene.

Over on the right I’m sure they see this a little differently. The hungry man that broke into the restaurant for a meal was just lazy and didn’t want to work for a living to buy food and he should rot in jail.

6. Okay for your first post, but kind of a fail
It's okay you'll get better at it :)

When you smoke a lot of weed sometimes you get the munchies...I've been known to go to 7-11 at 2:30AM

This guy just broke in and used this place as his own private kitchen. I want me some nuggets now

7. Crimes at drive-in restaurants motivated by need to eat
seem to be making the rounds. Is it the phase of the moon?

Sort of wonder if it was Ambien that had him out in his underwear breaking in to the restaurant for chicken fingers?

8. That was a stupid thing to do, but I don't think he deserves jail time.
I hope that the judge just puts him on probation.
