Bush’s Toronto appearance cancelled

from the Toronto Star:

Next week’s appearance by former U.S. president George W. Bush at an event hosted by a local evangelical Christian university has been cancelled.

The decision came Wednesday, the same day three former students launched a petition http://www.tyndale.co/petitionEND urging the university to cancel the speech. On Tuesday, a class valedictorian and professor publicly spoke out against the appearance following the resignation of another staff member.

Bush was scheduled to speak Sept. 20 to about 150 people at an invitation-only breakfast hosted by Tyndale University College and Seminary, home to about 1,400 students at two campuses in Toronto’s north end.

Tyndale supporter Prem Watsa, chief executive of Fairfax Financial Holdings and sometimes referred to as “Canada’s Warren Buffett,” was sponsoring the event, which the administration said was intended to raise the university’s profile. Watsa did not respond to requests for comment. ............(more)

1. Stoodip students ...
They should tipped off the RCMP to arrest him and put him on trial for crimes against humanity.

7. I'd like to believe that's what happened
Not that any students initiated anything, but somebody on his staff realized that he could be subject to arrest and prosecution if he stepped foot on Canadian soil and turned down the invite.

The other story is just a cover.

The boy king now knows he won't be traveling the world and receiving the accolades of throngs of grateful citizens. He's more or less under house arrest when it comes to international travel.

11. If those students wanted to see the chimp . . .
. . . then they probably don't have 20 IQ points and don't belong in a university.

On the other hand, some could have been journalism majors, communications majors, political science majors or history majors going as part of a class assignment.

14. It didn't say they were 150 students attending, just people. I'm guessing
Harper's family and friends had their arms twisted(I blame everything on Harper). , but I could be wrong and maybe it was students with a legitimate purpose, though what they thought they'd learn from him is beyond me.

8. That's the story put out. The real reason is the 'danger' of being arrested for war crimes.
GW bu$h can never leave this country and keep walking around loose ('lose' for the Bush lovers).

13. Canada seems to have a pesky regard for its own laws and treaty obligations
We don't suffer from that obsession here in the United States.

15. This guy Watsa is far from being "Canada's Warren Buffett"
Buffett is a solid citizen, as billionaires go. Could you in your wildest dreams imagine him supporting the U.S. equivalent of Tyndale, such as Liberty or Bob Jones University?!

17. It's good to see that some people are holding the war criminals
accountable. They should never be allowed to forget what they did. Their criminal policies have destroyed so much in this world, and shamefully, here they are still treated like elder statesmen. Good for those students.
