Elizabeth Warren will run against Republican Sen. Scott Brown in Massachusetts

By Associated Press, Updated: Wednesday, September 14, 2:13 AM

WASHINGTON — Consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren promised to advocate for middle-class families squeezed by big corporations as she enters Massachusetts’ Democratic primary, hoping to best a crowded field vying to challenge incumbent Republican Scott Brown for his Senate seat.

Warren is to kick off her campaign greeting Boston commuters on Wednesday morning, then travel to other cities across the state to meet voters.

I am really excited about this race.

Alas, that is by no means a sure thing.

2. She is not going to win.
If we keep sending the message that she is a shoe in. No offense, but it's going to be a fight and we need to get started. How did Brown put it in 2009? "It's the Peoples seat" he will play much of the same messaging, let's stay as far away from the arrogance as possible.

5. There's another charismatic Warren in the race--Setti.
He's the mayor of Newton: http://settiwarren.com/splash

And a whole primary field of other Dems who all have their eyes on the prize. They aren't ceding an inch. There will be debates.

Only people outside MA are ignoring the other candidates. That said, she's my favorite in the field. We'll see how it goes.

3. I'm pleased to see she's greeting commuters unlike the last candidate...
who at the very least implied all this stuff was "beneath her dignity". Think Ms. Warren knows who the Red Sox are? Of course she does!

Go Elizabeth!

8. ACtually Coakley did that too. Dont believe the media.
She was not a great campaigner, but she did some meet and greet, particularly during the primary. Her error was to believe she would win the GE without problems.

4. She's got to fight her way through a not-unimpressive primary field, but if she can do that, I have
high hopes.

6. Right!
The field is now up to ...what, 7 or 8? Some are unknown names, while at least a couple of others do have name recognition.

She, herself, is not that well known outside of the political junkie circle. If she gets the Dem. nomination she will certainly be a formidable candidate, but - again - outside of the political junkie circle, Scott Brown is not widely disliked.

13. She's well-known with the national media
I am betting she'll get plenty of face time on Maddow, Ratigan, etc... then radio's - Miller, Rhodes and Hartmann, will be lined up. I believe that gives Warren a leg-up on her opponents.

I'm looking forward to hearing from her again - she's a well respected voice and we can really use that these days.

15. National media,
doesn't mean a whole lot in the individual states, and shows like Maddow and Ratigan are popular among we politics junkies, but not among the everyday citizen who doesn't follow this as closely as we do.

The last local (MA) poll I saw put Marisa DeFranco in the lead among the "named" candidates, but "other" lead all. It will be interesting to see haw that changes now that Ms. Warren is in the race.....The biggest hitch I see is that there are 2 candidates named Warren....and the other, Setti Warren is currently the Mayor of the city of Newton, a city of 82,000 southwest of Boston.

I do believe she can win, but it will not be easy, and is not a slam dunk, by any means.

7. She'll have to win the primary first.
And for that, she will need to be able to campaign and to talk about other topics than the middle class struggles (as important as it is), something she has not done yet.

Her announcement video is disappointing, IMHO. I hope she will soon be able to do better. But this is an impressive primary coming, and if she wins it, she may be able to beat Brown (though he is well liked outside of the core democratic groups).

9. I hope so
I have one piece of advice that I am sending to her:

Stop dodging questions during interviews like you did this morning. The people are tired of that trait in politicians and we love how smart, tough, funny and direct you are. In my humble opinion people want to know you are different from the rest. Sound like YOU, not like THEM.

12. I'm hoping she will win, but I'm not feeling positive for 2012 for the Democratic party
not unless the economy begins to pick up in the next year.

14. She would have been more effective as the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
This is several steps away from having her
actually protect us against WallStreet and the Banks.
