Mitt Romney and President Obama Agree on Something: It's not the governments role to create jobs.
Mitt Romney
September 5, 2011
USA Today Editorial

"Government itself cannot create jobs. At best, government can provide a framework in which economic growth can occur, ....
Only the individual initiative of entrepreneurs, workers, investors and inventors enables companies, and our economy as a whole, to flourish.”

President Barack Obama
September 8, 2010
Speech at Cuyahoga Community College

"I’ve never believed that government’s role is to create jobs or prosperity. I believe it’s the drive and the ingenuity of our entrepreneurs, our small businesses; the skill and dedication of our workers -- that’s made us the wealthiest nation on Earth. I believe it’s the private sector that must be the main engine for our recovery."

1. And except the obvious delight
in implying that Obama and Romney are the same, what EXACTLY to you disagree with in the two quotes in your OP? They are both saying that government should provide the FRAMEWORK, which is correct. They very muchj disagree in what that framework should be, but that part is not included in your quotes.

4. It's the governments right, duty and legal requirement to create full employment.

President Obama should propose massive, useful and direct federal government public works programs along the lines of the WPA and CCC.

And President Obama should issue an Executive Order lifting Ronald Reagan's ban on such programs.

But, as you should know, both President Obama and all of the Republican primary candidates are opposed to "New Deal" type jobs programs.

But, if you want to agree with them on that one issue that is of course your right.

I don't agree.

5. No
this is not the defunct Soviet Union. Government can help and most definitely should help, but in teh system we live under it is most definitely NOT "the governments right, duty and legal requirement to create full employment". This being said, I agree that unemployment, especially high unemployment, and especially without a support mechanism like some European countries used to have (not any longer AFAIK), is immoral, but that's a whole different matter.

7. If I understand your post correctly you would have hated all of the
Democratic presidents between FDR and JFK. Full employment was a big goal of the government during those years. It was one of the sure things we could expect from them. Where private business failed (such as the inner city, youth employment, etc.) the government intervened.

2. I don't think either one of them should have government jobs.
