Here's what I said to a friend who asked if I thought President Obama wrote the speech himself
"OF COURSE HE DID"

How do you know?

"I know it because whoever wrote it would be our President by now".

Well, I'm smiling. I think it's the best, most healing, most appropriate speech ever. I'm so grateful he was able to do it so perfectly, so heartfelt, so credibly. I saw a lot of immediate good coming from it, like a cloud filled with good vibes to envelop all who heard it.

As I listened there were times when I imagined what that speech could be like, if we had not elected this man to serve as our President.
And I cried a few tears in gratitude for our blessings.

1. Presidents don't write their speeches.
They have staffs for that. I'm sure he reviewed the final draft.

8. As you should.
Are you his secretary? How do you know the definite answer without being in the Oval Office?

9. Really?
Some disagree with you. The inauguration speech : http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/20/barack-obama-inauguration-us-speech and The Cairo speech "The speech was drafted by Ben Rhodes, a 31-year-old White House speechwriter who has specialized in foreign affairs, and reflected consultations with several outside experts on Islam and the region." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124409999530984503.html

18. I don't need an article that was written before he became President.
Being a candidate and being a President are two completely different things. They can't be equated.

19. He has a history of writing his own speeches..
I'm not sure what you're looking for here.

It was widely reported today that he wrote tonight's speech and has been working on since Monday.

Obama is a writer. No secret there.

So, what's your problem with him having written his own speech? You think he's incapable of it?

21. I didn't bring it up, others did so I don't have the problem.
Do I think he is capable of writing a speech? Of course. Do I think that he wrote this one from beginning to end? No. It seems some here are being extremely defensive that someone might have assisted him in writing the speech. They are the ones with the problem. If it was so "widely reported" that he wrote the speech you would have given a link. What will you say when it is leaked in a few days -- and it will be -- who wrote the speech?

22. Here...
Aides said Mr. Obama wrote much of the speech himself late Tuesday night at the White House. Laden with religion overtones, Mr. Obama seemed as though he was striking a preacher’s tone with a politician’s reverb.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/13/us/13obama.html

I said "widely" because CNN, MSNBC, and NBC all said that he wrote it. Two reporters said he began working on it Monday night.

I do think you have a problem that we have a writer president who is capable of writing for himself without the aid of a speechwriter. Of course, he does have speechwriters who did go over this with him, but the majority of it was all President Obama.

You are well within your rights to not believe that he wrote his own speech.

6. They don't write the entire thing, but I'd be very surprised
if Obama didn't tool around with what the speechwriters give him. It's the sign of an active mind in the Presidency. Clinton did the same thing, if any of the books written about him are to be believed.

17. I gave an educated opinion.
Based on history and common sense. I can't really match posters who claim the President wrote it 100% because he is "magic" however. That is a very convincing argument.
