75. When my Irish mother died, the family spent a lot of time celebrating the life she led.
And, since she was a happy, loving, outgoing person, that celebration was full of happiness, love & hope. Sure we were saddened by her passing, it was more than made up for in the joy we felt in knowing her.

I can't remember Mom feeling tears, but I can't remember her without feel laughter, either.

He acted pretty grossed out by it. I don't mind the celebratory applause for statements about unity and transcendance, but howling like it's the Duke basketball game that I'm turning to in 11 minutes? Bleech.

But remember, this isn't your family member's memorial. If you don't want cheering don't have a ceremony in a college auditorium, stay in a cold dark church.

They play music and dance at New Orleans funerals to celebrate the life that was lived.

They are applauding and celebrating who the honorees WERE as living people. I don't see a problem with that.
