Does anyone know who funds Michelle Rhee's "Student's First" organization?
Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 04:40 PM by notadmblnd
My State Rep is leaving the legislature to go to work for this organization. My fear is that he doesn't really know who/what he is getting involved with.

What do you guys think? Michelle Rhee is currently involved in a test cheating scandal while she worked for the DC school district. I have read she is trying to bust unions and has been working with FL Gov Rick Scott. I also hear that while she claims to be a democrat, she is very close to the DeVos family of Amway fame.

I've done volunteer work for my rep and I know him and his family personally. I'm concerned that he might be making a mistake going to work for this organization. I'm afraid that because he is such a strong advocate for education, that he's being used.

My instinct is to tell him to be careful. Should I?

1. If he is for the destruction of teachers and their unions
then he is making the correct move...........
If he is for corporations taking over education and raising the cost of education
then he is making the correct move
If he is for education and the betterment of children then you and he need to read
a lot of threads in the Education forum.

rhee is evil and mean and a liar

The lack of information on Students First raises some red flags for me also.

The only mention of funders that I could find is that she took money from Rupert Murdoch: http://www.rheefirst.com/confirmed-rhee-funded-by-rupert-murdoch

4. Apparently so, because I just read that the pukes in Michigan congress
are going to intro a bill that would allow a private company to supply teachers to a school district.

5. Check out this website:
They have lots of research on Students First: http://www.rheefirst.com/ Chances are that he knows though. All of the education reform people tend to crossover in lots of different astro-turf orgs.
