It's Cute to Kill: Wal-Mart Is Selling Military Camo Diapers by Huggies

"Huggies Camo Diapers are shaped to fit like classic Huggies Little Movers Diapers and combine a fashionable camouflage design with the proven performance of the Huggies brand," said Erik Seidel, vice president for the Huggies brand. "We are proud to partner with Walmart to introduce Huggies Camo Diapers and to join with Operation Homefront to support service men and women and their loved ones."

The Huggies brand, Walmart and Operation Homefront will host baby showers for expectant military moms in five locations across the U.S. to spread the word about helping service members and families in need of assistance. The first baby shower will take place in Washington, D.C. this month, with subsequent events planned for September in Fayetteville, Arkansas, San Diego, California, San Antonio, Texas and Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

K-C is also offering limited-edition Huggies Camo Wipes in a fun, camo-inspired package design, allowing mom to stylishly accessorize while enjoying the same gentle clean found in traditional Huggies Natural Care Wipes.

Huggies Camo Diapers and Wipes will be available exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide for a limited time from September to November 2011. Huggies Camo Diapers offer the trusted leakage protection Moms have come to know and trust from the Huggies brand and feature the same revolutionary design found in Huggies Little Movers Diapers that allows babies to move, crawl and scoot.

1. Make sure jr wears a blaze orange bib, else he'll get lost in the woods
Or might be mistaken for a deer.

Or just make sure he doesn't crawl off into the woods.

2. Sounds like a limited-time charitable effort. Lots of young military wives
at home while husband is deployed for up to 15 months at a time, lots of them can't work or even have a babysitter (day care costs too much). I was there, myself. I have no problem with this. My boys always had camo outfits, hats, etc. Neither of them want to join the military, at this point.

3. This is a military town
and an area with a lot of hunters so they're really popular around here.

"Just like Dad" is cute as hell to some people.

4. That's a bit of a stretch. I like the idea.
I always support our troops, but not always the war.

The majority of our soldiers do not want to kill. Yes, there are some nutjobs who joined the military to shoot them some muslims, but they are the minority. Most people in our military join because of family tradition, education benefits, or economic reasons. Just because what they are being forced to do is wrong, that does not make them wrong. As I said, I will always support our troops, but I do not support our wars.

5. The High Church of Redemptive Violence recruits early and often
Really, how are you going to convince people to sign on to the lunacy of violence if it isn't inculcated from a person's earliest days? Today's military recruits were callow 9-year-olds when the invasion of Afghanistan was launched, and all evidence is that it's a complete waste of time, money and personnel. So the High Church has to get its message instilled in young people through all available avenues. War today, war tomorrow, war forever! Amen.

10. Hunting is very popular where I live in North Florida ...
and considering that I live in one of the poorest counties in the United States the object is meat for the table.

It's common to see people here in public dressed in camouflage outfits and there are several pickups trucks that I see drive by that are painted with camouflage colors. They usually have Pit Bull dogs riding in the back.

Hunting does involve killing. However, the deer population in this area is extremely high. You have to be careful while driving as deer will often run out in front of your car. A neighbor totaled her car two or three years ago and my daughter hit a deer several months ago with, fortunately, little damage.

The wild hog population is basically out of control and there is a year around season for hog hunting. Hogs can do a lot of damage to an environment, but they are tasty if prepared correctly. Only Texas has more feral hogs than Florida.

11. putting a camo diaper on your baby doesn't help you bag a deer.
Camo diapers are about the parents' mentality, not whether a deer will sit still long enough to be shot.

12. Maybe a support the troops thing
but I see it as just plain crass commercialism.

Just as bad to put boys in these as it is to put girl babies in beauty pageants. Macho vs pretty pretty. I don't appreciate the sex stereotyping of children, especially infants. Says a lot about parental insecurities.

Pooper scooper fashion...about as meaningful as little patterns on toilet paper.

15. Part of the early macho military indoctrination
When my nephews were little, it was really hard to find clothes to give that weren't either military-themed (baby camo!) or all about sports or some other "he-man" preoccupation, as if those were the only proper identifications for boys.

It was hard to find anything that was in line with their parents' values (one year, I finally found some T-shirts that pictured a tent pitched in the woods near a lake, which was very much in line with that family's interests), or even just solid-colored clothes.

At least my nieces grew up before all that princess-themed crap came on the market.
