Take the RN out of KATRINA...
And you have KATIA. Is that the next big storm? After a quiet year or two of hurricane activity, perhaps this year will be one of several big storms? Certainly Irene was nothing to scoff at or ignore. It was a huge hurricane. It could have been much worse.

2. Looks like a fish storm but since this will be a hurricane

in less than 24 hours, I really hope it does not come close to land.
The Atlantic has been stirred up with Irene so hopefully the water isn't quite as warm as it was last week.

I'm watching two systems - one coming out of Central America/Northern Caribbean and the other one South East of Barbados. Anything South of Barbados that develops is trouble for any one of (or more than one of) Hispaniola/Cuba/Jamaica/Central America and the Gulf of Mexico states.

3. Nah, won't be big. We were forecast for some rain from the Gulf of
Mexico, but they've changed that now and we won't see a drop...all because Parry prayed for rain!

5. It could have been much worse, yes
So far, we are only 1 storm behind the 2005 hurricane season (we are back to the names used for that year, too). I think that they should have used the name Kelly or something equally "not like Katrina" when they retired the name Katrina (in the same vein, they used Rina to replace Rita, but then Rita doesn't really have the same power as a name as Katrina does. Katrina invokes images of people sitting on their roofs. Rita was stronger but didn't hit New Orleans, so it's usually only remembered by weather geeks and people who live in or near Sabine Pass, TX).

The good news from 2005 to this year is that, while we are running almost even with the storms, we are not running even on their intensities. At this point in 2005, we had already had 5 hurricanes (Cindy, Dennis, Emily, Irene, Katrina) and 3 major hurricanes (Dennis, Emily and Katrina). This time we've only had one hurricane and one major hurricane (Irene).

In 2005, we had to start using Greek letters to name them... let's hope it's not like that this year!

(On a side note, the names rotate every six years... in 2013, if we were to get to the W names... the tropical storm/hurricane would be named Wendy. I think that the NHC was poking fun with that one)

6. I was thinking they should have switched the name.
It's too close to Katrina.
