The big picture of Irene, droughts, tornadoes, and yes snowmogedon...
what do they all have in common?

GLOBAL WEATHER CHANGE.

It is time to have a NATIONAL CONVERSATION on this.

But Irene was not that bad... it was just a cat 1.... with a cat 3 eye... and wide as hell.

The snow storms were greater due to increased humidity and energy in the atmosphere.

The droughts, in Texas and Arizona... we need to realize that this fits the dang science.

So yes an INDIVIDUAL WEATHER EVENT... yes you are correct... but as a PATTERN... we are here... time to have that dang conversation.

the Rs in terms of thinking, but surely there are others out there who haven't given climate change much thought. Maybe we can reach them?

17. I think we should concern ourselves with it, but how do
we have a NATIONAL CONVERSATION - is there some huge roundtable we can all join in?

As to that, there is quite a bit of chatter and book and article writing about these subjects, so how would the NATIONAL CONVERSATION be different? What new things would figure in?

We need to educate about global weather change. Letting our corporate overlords control our weather news for profit is something I can't get on board with.

sadly, not that you get this... the media will have to be involved in that conversation... as well as corporations... as much as it galls me in fact... but I cannot do it alone.

So you want them hype (tm) Texas or not?

32. I think the tragedy in Texas and Arizona is affecting more
Edited on Mon Aug-29-11 05:22 PM by Broderick
people and wildlife, but it doesn't wear the badge of home, the media elites and the corporate masters call home.

I think the Government did a superb job with this storm. I prefer the Government to advise people via public service and announcements. What has happened, and it is only my humble opinion, is that we have let the profiteers report what they want for profit. I am mad that they whipped people into a panic in my area. I operate a business that deals with areas of low income and the pain it will inflict on them. They were hurt the worst by hyperbole dished out for ratings and sensationalism. I think we need more straight forward education on what to do and how to proceed, not someone in the yellow slicker complaining about 47 mph winds. People in this area that live near the coast are well versed, or their neighbors are well versed and experienced in what can happen and what will happen. I know we disagree on some things, and this is one of them - the corporate takeover of our national interests on weather is one of them. This same media whipped this country into an unnecessary war in Iraq. I saw the title loan place packed down the street. The pawn shop owner behind me was going full bore pawning and buying stuff from the neediest. The government needs to take over news stations during times of crisis and stop the panic.
Encourage those in danger to go to the nearest shelter. Luckily, because I live in an area prone and use to this type of stuff, the localities were very pre-emptive knocking on doors and issuing mandatory evacuations.

We can disagree on topics, and then we can agree on topics. I don't mind. This one I believe you are wrong on, but its based on living here in the path of the storm as I have through many of these storms. This was not the epic Armageddon touted. More people lost their lives and more damage was inflicted by the ice storms in the upper NE this year, but they are used to those things. Tragedy happens. Global warming is real and that is the real story here. We have tremendous loss of life with tornadoes this year. Entire fish populations dying in barren lakes.

As long as you like cats we will find common ground, I hope.

On EDIT, I see what the corporate masters don't want to report. That is the fukushima tragedy that affects us all. That has been buried, minimized and nobody is out there proclaiming the tragedy that befalls all of us on that.

33. To fuku agreed but that is not the US Media
it is media... period... some of us work hard to keep the rest informed.

Droughts are hard to explain.

Why the conversation on CLIMATE CHANGE needs to happen, and for that to happen the POTUS needs to start... well there is a little problem with a certain oil related project that people are currently protesting.

35. He took control and had a measured tone about Irene
he was the voice of reason. I am sure they don't want panic from a government standpoint on fukushima but by golly that will kill more than any natural disaster long term. Just sayin. That pipeline legislation to help the profiteers on the energy side of things was done under the cloak of crisis. Make no mistake.
