1. The next President will have to do that
and Cheney's trial will likely be postmortem.

The man looks like a walking cadaver these days.

2. Obama should do it
He needs to stop cowering before Cheney and the GOP.

Investigate and prosecute! They committed crimes and they should not get away with it.

10. Only if you want every GOP president in perpetuity to prosecute the outgoing
Democrat for imaginary crimes. After all, they're still seeking revenge for the near impeachment of Richard Nixon. Those people don't forget, they hold grudges, they know how to hate, and they don't give a shit about the country.

That's why it's actually a bad idea for Obama to do this and why it will have to wait for the next president.

11. So you're saying Obama shouldn't prosecute them for actual crimes
Because the next Republican President will prosecute the previous Democratic Administration for imaginary crimes.

12. It's a precedent he doesn't want to set
and while I think their crimes are so egregious to warrant taking the risk, I can see why he doesn't want to be the one to do it.

Think about it. It took 30 years to get Pinochet, but they eventually did get him. They will get Addington, Yoo, Gonzales, Rice, and the rest of the architects of illegal war and torture but it's going to take time.

Cheney will have died in bed by then but the man is in a hell of his own making right now.

15. Can U say "AGNEW?"
If there are WAR CRIMES OR CORRUPTION on EITHER SIDE, THEN SO BE IT with the investigations & trials.

17. If Obama were to prosecute,
he would leave himself open to the same treatment.

His record isn't exactly stellar when it comes to illegal detention, extraordinary rendition etc.

3. Oh, that would just be lookin' backwards to the past
We're all about lookin' forward to the future! Besides, do we really want to make mere policy differences into criminal matters? What's a little torture and war crimes anyway? Gee whiz, you libruls are sooooo petty sometimes.

Now, let's talk about how Obamacare is setting up death panels to kill grandmothers all over the country.

4. Mr. Cheney continues to perform an invaluable educational service
Time and again, he makes clear to the American people that rule of law only applies to the little people.

Welcome to DU, BTW.

5. This gets a Rec from me.
You know that stupid phrase they made up? "Never Forget". Well, I'll never give up. Until justice is actually served, I'll always be waiting. It took 30 years for Pinochet. Do we need to wait that long?
