Predicting the new jobs program that Obama will announce.
First of all, it will be mostly in the form of tax credits to companies. Then after that, there will be a mention of a jobs "training" program complete with "partnerships" with community colleges and our new industry that we all were wondering about, "supply chain".

"what do you do Bob?"

"Oh, I do supply chain Jack. It's the future!"

Other than that...well that's it.

You heard it here first.

1. I so want you to not be right
But given his choice of advisors (which began 11/5/08), this would not surprise me in the least.

4. The future may very well be
figuring out our own true and undeniable place in this life and Universe while we sort that out from the control and confusion that comes from those who tell us what our place is or should be.

It seems to be clear that, after all this endless plethora of splits and divisions that only serve to concentrate power, control and exclusivity, deeply exploring, in a last-minute, last-ditch effort, our own, personal world and map could allow for some realistic connection, cooperation and expansion of our limited, narrow perspectives.

You don't need religion or politics for that kind of revolution because you already have what you need to get it and get out.

8. Thank you for your repeated attention and response,
Safteykitten.

I stumble along after many years of deepest inquiry only to emerge as a child again and again and again. The greatest among us is even more that way. I am full of mistakes and misgivings and those are all the feedback that is not failure that is being genuine to the most embarrassing degree ... and then some.

Loving your reply. More love is a good way and it is a power to come, not a sign of weak romantic illusions of any type. We have heard of the power of love and scoffed at it because the power of despots has held our attention. When our attention changes to a deep and sincere experience of the power of love, it will no longer be a word or catch-phrase or idol that we pay homage to in so so many ineffectual and easily displaced ways, it will be a resounding and unmistakable way of action and empowerment unlike anything we have seen or known in a collective sense.

Namaste!

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

Solidarity!

14. Drop our free trade agreements.
Place duties on all imports. Require that all government contractors buy a percentage of the materials they use from American manufacturers (with no parts not made in America). Require that percentage to begin at about 20% and then increase to 75 or 80%.

23. How about an income boost for poor people?
You know, take some money away from the rich who are sitting on mountains of cash they can't spend (they have everything already) and won't invest (because there is no demand!) and give the money to poor and other low-income people who need stuff.

Jobs will follow. Even if they don't, the result is still positive -- poor people and their kids catch a break.

Won't happen of course. Right wingers prefer giving more money to rich people and corporations in pursuit of the always-useful trickle-down fantasy. Obama will do what the right wingers want while seeming sad about it.

Whenever we've been on the precipice of an Obama announcement, I start to feel at a little hopey. Then 9 times out of 10 my hopes have been dashed. Still can't wrap my brain around it.

12. this is an odd thread
I could have sworn Obama already announced his jobs program a while ago

social security tax cut of 2%
trade agreements with Colombia, etc (Ecuador? What was the other country?)
patent reform
some infrastructure spending (not sure where the money is supposed to come from, what with budget cuts being our God at the moment).

16. hgojvt, that's what I heard too, and I think it is just awful.
It will do more harm than good. Social Security tax cuts make no sense -- unless Obama is admitting that Social Security has a big surplus, and if he is, then why would he talk about cutting benefits?

After all, we're supposed to wait with bated breath for the handing down of the *program*, right? And then get all quivery about 3 NEW Nafta programs to suck more jobs out of the country, right? :sarcasm:

of supply-side tax measures and pathetic amounts of infrastructure spending that will do next to nothing for creating jobs.
