3 things we learned during the Hurricane that we always knew.
I was in a Zone B evacuation area on the NY coast. The ocean is partially in my backyard. But we are all safe and smiling.

1-Thank goodness for all the Union workers who are encouraged to do their jobs because of their union wages and dedication to public service, they did a great job and will continue to do a great job as the cleanups and infrastructure repairs continue. Not to mention our Union firefighters and police officers, power grid workers and telephone repairmen, etc. Hell with it, thank you to ALL the Union public employee workers. Where were the f**king Koch bros. or any of the other fright-wing assholes that call these people "worthless"? NOT on the ground with our citizens putting their lives on line. NY THANKS YOU AND APPRECIATES YOU UNION WORKERS! Thank you for all your HARD WORK!

2-The mainstream media is a giant fuck-wad of a mess that love nothing more than preying on peoples fears and over-sensationalizing any event by any means in order to make their shareholders happy. Tone it down guys, your BS is becoming obviously clear to the general public. Remember the little boy who cried wolf too many times?

3-Conservatism is once again proven to be a miserable failure of an ideology. Seeing Gov. Chris Christie cut these public employees pay and even laying them off while giving tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires in the name of "fiscal conservatism" is a sick ideology, a mental disorder. Guess what Chris? Looks like you're going to have to spend your way out of a crisis, utilizing public employees who now hate you because you hate them, and on guess what? Infrastructure repair and public services. Who's the hypocrite now? ASSHOLE!

Why would anyone want to live in fear that their Govt. won't help them in their time of need? With Democrats you know help is on the way.

8. That's because Republicans don't govern. They rule
There's the difference.

4. About the hype - Had not the media gone a little crazy,
Edited on Sun Aug-28-11 02:45 PM by GoneOffShore
It is highly likely that people would not have evacuated and that there would have been far more people dead this day.

This storm was set to run through the most populous area of the country and could caused untold havoc. The media did what is was supposed to do - warn their viewing audience.

5. Re: #2.

Totally agree. There was a local reporter on Chanel 2 interviewing a guy form Long Beach on Long Island in NY who refused to
evacuate his area. The reporter asked him why he did not leave after all the requests to do so. The guy from
Long Beach said he was not afraid and felt he could safely handle the now downgraded storm. The reporter
stood there staring at him like he was nuts. The reporter was completely thrown off base by the fact that
this man refused to be afraid.

7. I don't recall any over-sensationalizing with the triple meltdown at Fukushima
I actually remember just the opposite. When the reactor buildings began blowing up our media personalities like Sanjay Gupta and Anderson Cooper actually got on planes and ran away from Japan like their tails were on fire. Too dangerous for them to cover. Remember that?

That story was purposely left out of the news.

Wasn't it?

9. Indeed
I guess the same people bemoaning the fact that Irene wasn't as big and bad as it could have easily been, are the same who would moan if the truth were told about all the Nukushimas we live with.

"Nuclear is safe!!" Wanna talk about hype? There's your hype right there>> "Nuclear is safe!!"
