2. When you have the resources of an entire country as your piggy bank...
...you can buy some really posh stuff. There's a reason why the call it "living like a king".

4. Gaddafi had plans to proclaim himself emperor or king
<snip>

"Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi was planning to proclaim himself as king or emperor of Libya if his forces had won the battle against the rebels, the London-based As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper said Sunday.

The newspaper said the plan was revealed when an internal document was found in the deserted office of the Libyan prime minister's office in Tripoli by the reporter of the Daily Telegraph.

According to As-Sharq al Awsat the eight point-strategy document was among other papers which concerned the 'conflict engulfing Libya.'

The internal document, which dated back to July 15, set out a detailed program to mobilize Libya's tribes to re-establish the regime control of the country.

'When the suitable time comes all the tribal leaders and high ranking figures should come meet and proclaim Gaddafi a king or emperor,' the document said, according to the paper.

The paper added that such a step would have allowed Gaddafi to hand over the so-called Libyan monarchy to one of his seven sons at a later stage."

5. Not surprised
Robert Mugabe and Emperor Bokassa I (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-B%C3%A9del_Bokassa) would have done exactly the same, had they been sitting on as much oil.

The question is, why do insane megalomaniacs always rise to the top in politics?

10. Seems to me most of them have one thing in common...
and that is they figure out who to kill and exactly when to kill them.

Saddam did it. Hitler did it. Stalin did it. The list goes on.

Kill the right people who, after their deaths allow you to rise to power. Usually done in front of others in order to scare them as well.

7. He apparantly bought it second-hand from Prince Alwaleed of Saudi Arabia for $120 million in 2003
Afriqiyah Airways, which is based in Tripoli, runs Colonel Gaddafi’s personal Airbus A340, which he bought from Prince Alwaleed of Saudi Arabia for $120 million in 2003.
