This storm was huge not because of .power (Cat2 when it first hit and then slower to Cat1) but because of the vast number of people impacted by this storm. The I95 Corridor from North Carolina all the way up to Maine has a very very high population of people - 10million in New York City alone. Never has one storm affected so many people in such a long time.

I remember the Katrina mess. It seemed like we were watching the Keystone Kops bumbling around figuring out what to do while Bush and FEMA slept. Because of it, hundreds of lives were lost and most of these were preventable deaths.

But with this storm I felt like everyone was a few steps ahead of Irene. With over 50million people possibly being impacted by this storm so far I've heard of only 11 deaths. And although we would want to have 0, to have only 11 out of 50mil is pretty darn good.

All of the governors were ahead of the game making sure low-lying areas were evacuated. Heck even Chris Christie did a decent job with New Jersey. Of course being one of the few republican governors in this region I think he realized he had to work with us else things could have been bad in his state.

I just read an article where Ron Paul felt that FEMA was too involved with this storm. I do believe that it's the states who should first and foremost take care of their own but without a doubt they should do it with FEMA as their partners not with FEMA as a casual observer. Personally I think Ron Paul can go *#)^ himself!

Great job to everyone!

4. As Gov. Bev Perdue of North Carolina has said (and reiterated yesterday),
"We don't have to exchange business cards on the day of the emergency. We know each other." She said she lives on the coast herself, and the competence of FEMA today is "night and day" from what it was a few years ago.

6. 100% agree!! Kudos to all of them.
Ensuring that many people are out of harm's way is damn difficult.

Congrats FEMA, President Obama and the governors. Congrats without reservation or equivocation.

8. President Obama's FEMA is far superior to Bush's FEMA
But a positive rarely gets the attention of a negative. I think though, that 55 million people are grateful for every bit of help and information they've been given. Hell! I'm on the West Coast but I'm grateful my dear friends on the East Coast are all safe.

11. Hear- hear!
:applause:

FEMA is only as good as it's administration, and Obama is really good at the details... thank gawd!
But yes, the combined efforts of all involved *before* things got squirrely was remarkable.

I wasn't glued to the coverage, but what I saw about preparedness and evacuations really impressed me. The leadership on every level did an awesome job.

One other thing that impressed me was that during the news coverage they acknowledged the emotional attachment issues related to leaving a house behind. I thought that was more respectful than I have sometimes seen.

16. K&R All involved did a great job in my opinion.
It's good to see, even if in a bad situation. Now we know that things CAN be done intelligently and effectively. They picked a good time to show it.

Thanks and A+ from me, from everything I've seen about it.

This time, even those who couldn't afford it were taken care of. As it should be. Even pets were included.

I also think this was a good learning experience (a positive one, this time, as opposed to Katrina) for all, should another emergency happen in the future. I think we got a lot out of this, truth be told.

To be able to say that after an emergency, is about as good as it gets. Now if we could get that kind of thinking and action we've seen here applied to other issues...
