Now That The Hurricaine Is Over..........
Edited on Sun Aug-28-11 09:34 AM by rsmith6621

Can we get back to hammering the need for more JOBS...... Also what is going on in Libya..where is Ghadafi...and how many service members did we lose since Wednesday.

So lets start focusing on CONSTRUCTION than DESTRUCTION. 4 solid days of this in the media is enough, tomorrow is a new day.

1. It's not over for a lot of people yet. And the cleanup and repairs will
produce a LOT of jobs, if only temporarily.

2. The hurricane is not 'over' for everyone
evacuees, people who are still flooded out, relatives of those who died, businesses and services that can't re-open yet.

Although, I agree with your point - the media ought to do a little bit more multitasking here, I think.

It's not over and a lot of people are still in harm's way. BTW - correct spellings are "hurricane" and "Libya".

4. In a technical sense the hurricane is over - it's Tropical Storm Irene now
Edited on Sun Aug-28-11 09:35 AM by robcon
But its effects will be felt here in NY - although probably less forcefully than in NC and VA.

5. Over? Did you say over?
Nothing is over until we decide it is. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no. And it ain't over now.

11. OMG, you're comparing this tropical storm to bombing Pearl Harbor?
Btw, it was the JAPANESE who bombed PH, NOT the Germans.

26. Moon River .....
think it was my moms favorite song ..... when Andy Williams sang it way back when. Okay I just cheated and looked it up ... originally sang by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's 1961. Written by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music).

Hmmm ... you could be referring to a town in Georgia or a river in Canada .. ?? All the best and peace. :hi:

27. Johnny Mercer wrote it about a river (back river) in Georgia. There is
no doubt as to its origin.

6. What good is hammering for the need for jobs on DU?
Working to elect Democrats is the only way to get government assistance on this.

And there might be other ways to help with that too.

22. I add to the chorus who say "over??"
The rain and wind is picking up in the NE, just got word from NH that some family members just lost power. Including the one who is on oxygen.

So yeah, I don't fucking think so.

23. There are 800,000 people without power in my state alone.
I'm one of the lucky ones in my state who still has power. Several millions are blacked out, and it won't be back overnight. That also means being without water, which is a huge problem. And the blackout is only one thing, that doesn't even count damage, which is extensive, and ongoing flash flooding which is deadly.

Are you kidding me? Chit chat about what you want to. The DUers MOST affected aren't even back online yet. Thanks for giving a damn.
