So Perry lectured Iowans on the number of recipients of food stamps in this state.
Here is a chart with the statistics of food stamp usage in the US:

http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2011/02/02/some-43-million-americans-use-food-stamps/

Perhaps Perry should return Texas and address the issues of the large number of people in his own state on the rolls. I really detest this conniving goober.

1. Wow, Texas has more people on food stamps than any other state!
Edited on Sun Aug-28-11 06:59 AM by Lasher
3,925,119 people representing 15.6% of their population. They just had an annual increase of 697,058, also the largest of any state. Washington, DC has the highest percentage at 21.9%.

4. Washington, DC has the highest percentage at 21.9%. yes but only 131,611
total people on stamps however

Iowa has higher #s,351,898 @11.6% which even that one cannot understand if one follows stereotypes of who is on stamps then the numbers do not match up
Seems like a large faith based republican hub and is 96% white???

5. I'm trying to process your assumptions about my state.
What does race or religion have to do with job loss in a rural state. Lost jobs are lost jobs and their effects or a population is at once color blind and knows no god.

6. I said "if one follows stereotypes of who is on stamps"
Sorry but IMO the stereotype of someone on stamps is Urban people of color, like D.C.

and the faith based republicans like to state that government is not needed, private charity can handle it in their communities and should be a model for the country

I also believe that before the recession many of the people on food stamps now
had very different opinions on why people then
would ever have to have food stamps and it would never be them actually
because they are decent, self sufficient and hardworking as if someone on food stamps wasn't trying for a better life
but instead living the 'high life on the government dole' and.... and yes enjoying it too on their tax $$!

I worked in Iowa for 2yrs and heard those mantra often in the 90's - doesnt mean everyone was of those thoughts there or that it doesnt exist elsewhere.

Just talking about stereotypes re: food stamps, again IMO
