Bloomberg Presser Notes (Addresses Rikers)

- Time to evac is past. Now stay inside for the duration and move away from windows. Tomorrow morning is the worst time.

- 2 idiots capsized in a kayak in the sound at 7pm and were given summons for being morons and taking up the time/resources of emergency responders (good).

- Be prepared for no electric/water tomorrow am. Call 311 or text 311 at 311692 if you are out of service. Do not tie up 911.

(Nothing about bridge closings, although the lower level of the GW Bridge was closed earlier tonight)

Q&A:

- Q: Why Rikers not evac'd?
A: Higher ground than Zone A (only evac zone) and safe

- Q: Are hotels locking down AC and elevators?
A: AC no problem, elevators a problem if the power goes out (takes resources to rescue stuck ppl)

4. Thanks - I left work before his latest appearance. That sounds
so ominous -- too late to evacuate! :scared:

On the way home the local station was doing a special report and spoke w/their NY person (ABC) and they were commenting on how EVERYBODY learned from Katrina. The Governors and Mayors didn't want to make the same mistakes, Obama goes to FEMA and they were in communications w/WalMart -- how to get supplies to the stores that people may need, phone companies, etc., no stone unturned. Pretty impressive.

6. After snowmageddon, he really doesn't have a choice.
He has to take the most conservative (practical, not political) stance there is in preparing for the worst case scenario. Governor Christie Creme as well.

9. And I'm sure he's prepared for next Winter, too! Christie has
been working it, I'll give him that.

Something I didn't understand about Snowmageddon, is -- is there something more that COULD/SHOULD have been done? I always feel when Mother Nature has her way, we're pretty limited in how we can "fix" it.

7. Er - Rikers is white (non-evac zone)
Honestly, I don't get it. Not only is the island higher ground, but without windows (and SOLID concrete), likely *the* most hurricane proof building in the region.

8. Given summons for being morons!
Boy, we ought to do that more often, even when there are no hurricanes.

Half my town would be summoned, and nearly all of Congress!

10. That was my shorthand, but Bloomberg wasn't any more PC
he just used more words and made the point that stupidity will not go unaddressed.

:D
