GOP pols told they're not welcome at Wausau Labor Day parade
By Erin Richards of the Journal Sentinel

Community parades often feature local politicians waving to the crowds, but this year's annual Labor Day parade in Wausau may be short a few elected officials.

That's because the head of the group that sponsors the Wausau Labor Day Parade, the Marathon County Central Labor Council, is telling Republicans lawmakers from the area that they're not welcome on Sept. 5.

"Usually they've been in the parade, but it seems like they only want to stand with us one day a year, and the other 364 days they don't really care," said Randy Radtke, president of the Council. The Council is made up of about 30 local unions from the Marathon County area.

In a statement, Radtke added that parade is intended to celebrate working men and women and what the labor movement has given them: weekends, a 40-hour work week, child labor protection and a safe working environment.

When someone starts throwing parades for CEOs, Hedge Fund managers and other Wall Street scum they can join in there.

38. Thank you! I can't because I'm living in Montreal, Canada.
But I will donate the most I can for the causes that you, with I hope a growing hundreds, if not thousands - think "Tahir Square" like... ;) - will be upholding at the occupation, in the name of the majority of Americans who demand these changes, poll after poll. I'll make my donations through the web site as soon as possible.

I will do all that I can to try to get the media to cover it (like they did in Cairo, for example), and also, why not, try to convince Veteran Mass. Senator John Kerry and others, to join you (or at the very least, to go meet you guys and talk to reporters if their working schedules allow them) there! :)

This could well be the "make me do it" action the President talked about, but for this to happen, the crowd must 'grow' in size each day! Spread the word around (social media, emails, etc) and make it big and visible!

I have a feeling a big majority of the rest of the world will be following your gains for the American people while you guys will stop the machine, peacefully, without ever giving up. You people have been denied these good Democratic policies we have here in Canada for too long already (except for the conservative 'tar-sands pipeline' that is at least 'not started yet' so it still can be included in the demands).

We'll be looking for your posts on DU also!

Republicans are not invited as speakers, with only one exception that I can think of. I'm not a UMWA member but I usually attend.

11. republicans at a Labor Day event!
That is just as appropriate as liberals attending one of Palin's "casting out of devils" ceremonies conducted by a Kenyan witch doctor!

Some pairs of things just don't mix, like republicans and actual working people, or liberals and religious insanity.

i remind everyone that this holiday is described as the title indicates.

repugs have nothing to do with this holiday whatsoever.

get in your fuckin vehicle and report to your nonunion fuckin mcjob with no benefits/retirement and collect your fuckin minimum wage that asshole bitch bachmann wants to reduce so that you make even less.

it's NOT your holiday.

14. I live in one of the most red areas of Illinois and went to a big parade a month ago
When the Dem float came by everyone stood and clapped enthusiastically. When the GOP float came by everyone stayed seated and booed them.

I was gobsmacked.

If they R's won't let you show up at one of their "town halls", then why should we let them show up up at a Labor Day parade-especially since they're against everything labor stands for.

23. Good for them
The Republicans have historically been anti-labor, enemies of minimum wage laws, and champions of policies that have killed the manufacturing sector in America through outsourcing.

The Republicans don't get it that they're not God's gift to the planet, despite the fact that they think they are.

39. I would bet that half of those Union members voted for the conservanazi republikans
in their district. They listen too and agree with all the conservanazi bu$hit on hate radio. I'm glad the Labor Council did this. I'll bet you go to the next union meetings of the member unions and some of those pricks will whine because they excluded the conservanazis.

Wisconsin was very progressive when I lived there until the last couple of years. The conservanazi hate machine propaganda blares on AM radio 24/7 and a lot of those white union member enjoy it. It feeds their greed.

41. Teabaggers, scabs and Republicans not welcomed! That should
be posted at every labor day celebration. Maybe Teabaggers/scabs/Republicans would be more accurate. About anyone working an average Joe type job and making a living owes it to the labor movement. Doing so and not supporting unions is a scab in my book.

42. They don't understand that they are enjoying the fruits of the labor struggle.
As a lifelong union member, I can assure you that lots of non-union workers don't realize that their wages and benefits are determined by using the benefits of area union workers. Weekends, holidays, hourly wage laws, workers' comp, insurance. The non-union and uninformed workers take these for granted. They are ignorant of history.

43. News Report: Labor Leaders must pay for parade if they wish to exclude Republicans -
- according to town mayor. It's an annual public parade paid for out of city tax dollars. Mayor states parade must be nonpartisan if paid for by public funds. Estimated cost for parade is $2,000.

Frankly, the mayor has a point. It doesn't state if labor leaders have decided to pay the full tab or include Republicans.
