Irene is in Norfolk
Edited on Sat Aug-27-11 07:13 PM by AsahinaKimi
That's where the Naval Shipyards are. Lots of ships docked in Norfolk, lets hope the sailors on board ships stay safe, and of course all the residents of that area!!

1. Alive and well here in Virginia Beach/Norfolk area...
98% of ships are out to sea with only 2-3 docked at Naval Station. Winds are howling with torrential rain; we are now in the worst part of the storm with over 800,000 without power. Thankfully never lost power, but time will tell.

4. The Navy ships that can sail...
are sent out to sea as it is safer than staying docked to pier. Those in drydock at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Newport News Naval Shipyard that are being worked on are secured and don't go out.

5. Yes
the Navy ships always go out to sea beyond the storm. And usually the big tankers and container ships have time to avoid it also.

It is the millions of smaller boats, fishing boats and recreational boats that are in trouble.

6. Awaiting news from relatives in the area
Can send short texts but no cell calls getting through.

There will be bad damage in Southeast VA. For sure.
