Wish we had Democratic politicians here like Jack Layton; I don't think we really have since Paul Wellstone died.

Any Canadian DUers with good memories of Jack Layton out there?

1. They're more than angry that the President cut his vacation short,

even if only a day, then discussed at length with FEMA hurricane Irene. The President acted like a leader and is presidential in manner. They have nothing...Poor Jack Layton will get the brunt of their frustration. Freepers are not having a good day, or weeks for that matter. Their new shiny thang, Perry, is looking a like a jerk nationally, their ratings are heading down the drain and Sarah is not announcing anything

A group here watched the funeral.. I was particularly moved by the Chief who gave Jack Layton's wife the white feather..

That man voted for DOMA, and I am sick of hearing the 'oh, there are none like him'. Bullshit. Sorry, but that asshole voted for DOMA. Mourning period is over. He cast a hate filled vote.

a vote for DOMA was the right thing to do......at the time.....! DOMA like prevented a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage. That would have been much more difficult to overturn now that the American people have "evolved" into our current view. Even now, it would have taken a lot longer to repeal an amendment than to repeal a law.

And the feeling of a big majority of people at the time was not at all what it is today. I have absolutely no doubt that it could very well have been approved. Would you have thought it OK to take that chance? I wouldn't have. Repealing a law is a great deal easier than is repealing a Constitutional amendment.

He will be missed by so many, he was well loved.

10. Yeah... I saw him speak

at a bike-friendly miniconference a few years ago, along with David Byrne and the head of a local cyclists' action group. He spoke well and was very down-to-earth. That was about the time that I decided that if I could vote New Democratic Party without risking a Conservative being elected, I would... and in the May election, I did... and the NDP candidate won!

We really miss Jack. I would be saying prayers for the NDP if I were a theist.
