I was on the verge of posting all the awful things the freepers are saying about Jack Layton,
quotes and links and all, but then just decided I don't want to inflict that on DU. Just take my word that the evil venom is spitting out today, on the day of the man's funeral. I really wish those people would just leave the planet.

Wish we had Democratic politicians here like Jack Layton; I don't think we really have since Paul Wellstone died.

Any Canadian DUers with good memories of Jack Layton out there?

1. They're more than angry that the President cut his vacation short,
even if only a day, then discussed at length with FEMA hurricane Irene. The President acted like a leader and is presidential in manner. They have nothing...Poor Jack Layton will get the brunt of their frustration. Freepers are not having a good day, or weeks for that matter. Their new shiny thang, Perry, is looking a like a jerk nationally, their ratings are heading down the drain and Sarah is not announcing anything

2. Please, if you can.. I am not sufficiently techy..
post the picture of Jack Layton and his wife in the Orange Rickshaw.. at the Toronto Gay Pride Parade..

A group here watched the funeral.. I was particularly moved by the Chief who gave Jack Layton's wife the white feather..

that indicated a great leader..

3. We have many better than Wellstone.
That man voted for DOMA, and I am sick of hearing the 'oh, there are none like him'. Bullshit. Sorry, but that asshole voted for DOMA. Mourning period is over. He cast a hate filled vote.

8. And at the time,
a vote for DOMA was the right thing to do......at the time.....! DOMA like prevented a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage. That would have been much more difficult to overturn now that the American people have "evolved" into our current view. Even now, it would have taken a lot longer to repeal an amendment than to repeal a law.

11. You do understand what it takes to amend the Constitution?
I don't think that would have gone forward.

12. Of course I understand. I am an adult..
And the feeling of a big majority of people at the time was not at all what it is today. I have absolutely no doubt that it could very well have been approved. Would you have thought it OK to take that chance? I wouldn't have. Repealing a law is a great deal easier than is repealing a Constitutional amendment.

5. I love(d) Jack. He was a one of a kind guy.
He will be missed by so many, he was well loved.

The Freepers hate good things, it's that simple. All they want is to destroy. I actually feel bad for them, thinking of those miserable souls compared to a bright light like Layton.

15. Isn't that true...
Jack Layton was so positive.. the story about his son and Jack completing their vacation bicycle ride.. with how many repaired tires ..

But my heart responds to the imagery and beauty and truth of his white feather.

7. Pictures to cancel out the comments
These pictures in the news show how loved and respected he was. Comments can't change that.

10. Yeah... I saw him speak
at a bike-friendly miniconference a few years ago, along with David Byrne and the head of a local cyclists' action group. He spoke well and was very down-to-earth. That was about the time that I decided that if I could vote New Democratic Party without risking a Conservative being elected, I would... and in the May election, I did... and the NDP candidate won!

We really miss Jack. I would be saying prayers for the NDP if I were a theist.

I don't see many in Congress who approach that level of ease and affability. Someone at DU posted a picture of Jack Layton that I liked, and that made me find out more about this politician:

Definitely more mellow then the suits that populate Washington DC!
