Ron Paul rejects FEMA role in hurricane response -- "we should be like 1900"
6,000 people died in the Galveston 1900 hurricane -- 15% of the town's population. The town was mostly leveled.

After a lunch speech today, Ron Paul slammed the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, and said that no national response to Hurricane Irene is necessary.

“We should be like 1900; we should be like 1940, 1950, 1960,” Paul said. “I live on the gulf coast, we deal with hurricanes all the time. Galveston is in my district.

“There’s no magic about FEMA. They’re a great contribution to deficit financing and quite frankly they don’t have a penny in the bank. We should be coordinated but coordinated voluntarily with the states,” Paul told NBC News. “A state can decide. We don’t need somebody in Washington.”

3. At least he's admitting he wants to turn the clock back.....
or the calendar, as it were. Yeah, let's just dump all those improvements we made over the last 100 years or so.

5. Americans must see their vote as a joke.
Paul, Ryan, Santorectum, Boner, the OTHER Paul, Bachmann, Gov. GoodHair, Mitch Daniels...

It's like they say "Let's vote for this bat-shit insane doofus and see if that livens up Headline News!"

I don't see the humour in it.

6. The aftermath of the 1900 Galveston hurricane: they couldn't get rid of the bodies.
Edited on Sat Aug-27-11 04:42 PM by Ilsa
They tried taking the dead (estimates were 6,000 to 12,000, but most believe about 8,000) out on boats and dumping them in the Gulf, but the bodies started washing ashore. The city used the poorest survivors, mostly African Americans and other minorities, to re-gather the dead and take them outside of town where huge funeral pyres were built. They said the PTSD for those workers was part of the forgotten tragedy. There were reports of many suicides and alcoholism amongst those drafted to do this work.

Is Dr. Paul going to volunteer to take care of disposing of the dead? Will he ask his kids and grandkids to do this? Why doesn't he just admit that this is something that Big Government does well? Along with providing weather agencies that inform us of when these storms are coming? He let's his ideology stand in the way of compassion and common sense.

7. Galveston is now protected by sea wall constructed mostly by
the United States Army or by the Army along with local governments. Going back to 1905. Over a century of Federal dollars and labor protect that city today.
The liar Ron Paul knows this.
