Bloomberg says epicenter of storm expected to strike east of the five boroughs
Edited on Sat Aug-27-11 02:53 PM by Are_grits_groceries
That will put them on the wrong side and in the worst of it. Hang on if you live there. (tweets)
He also told people to fill up there bathtubs. I'll bet that caused some scratched heads in some places.

1. That is NOT good.
I hope the prediction for landfall at high tide is not the case... that would increase the damage as well

13. Actually it is
Being west of the eye is better than being east of it. This hits Nassau County the worst.

3. Forecasters also worried about accelerated speed...
could bring eye of storm into NYC area at time of highest tide.

5. I just heard IRENE is the size of the continent of Europe.
Yesterday, I learned that a bucket of stored water from the tub will enable a toilet to flush even when the water system is offline. Who knew?

8. 'No Joe' the Faux Plumber (R)?
You know, the republicon assclown who is not really named Joe and who is not really a plumber (sooo republicon to be so fake), but who pretends to be Joe the Plumber.

He might have known that. Then again, since he's a republicon, he probably would only pretend to know it...

16. what an amazing picture! I am really mad now.
the idiots have decided to ALSO show hurricane coverage on the channel that SHOULD be showing Bones.
How stupid is that?! There are already about 6 channels all repeating the same thing, none of which is as useful as what I read and see here on du.
argg!
good thing I've got tapes of bones to watch. I need a break from hurricane worry.

7. Umm. No, the worst side is the Northeast Quad.
If it hits to the east, they get an easier storm.

14. The right side of the storm is the bad one.
This will still be pretty wild, though.

The people running around here acting like a Cat 1 hurricane is little more than a spring shower have obviously never ridden one out.

15. I know and I never assume.
Anything can happen, and someone a mile from you could be okay even when you are not. Too many interacting variables.

18. So much can happen--during Ivan we had 12 tornados in my county alone,
along with winds that nearly blew the glass out of my windows and nearly drove me nuts from the roughly 36 hours of constant howling. No phone or power for five days after. And then there were the gasoline shortages.

And I was 120 miles from the eye.

Just think what things will be like in NYC tomorrow, even if the eye does pass a bit to their east.

Like I said, the people who speak of teentsy-weentsy little hurricanes have never seen one up close.

20. I lived thru Hugo.
It ate the whole state of SC. FEMA was so bad then that people are still looking for them. They made people way out in the country without their homes anymore fill out a boatload of paperwork to get a small trailer. I'm sure others did too, but the people way out don't much of a support system. People who lived nearby tried to help them as much as they could, but everybody had some problem.
I don't know what they thought people were going to do with those trailers. They didn't pay eleventy billion dollars for those formaldehyde smelling things.

Contrary to popular belief, us New Yorkers are not idiots.
