Water main breaks, closes downtown SLC intersection

A geyser reminiscent of Old Faithful shot several stories into the air in downtown Salt Lake City after a water main broke Friday afternoon at 500 East and 300 South.

"Then the road gave way, causing water to spray into the air upwards of about 65 feet," Freitag said. "It was quite an impressive sight to see."

Freitag said crews closed eight valves in order to shut off the leak coming from a six-inch water main that carries at least 2,000 gallons per minute.

Most of the water pipes in the area of the intersection were installed between 1910 and 1920.

4. Well, I'm sure a prayer to Father God will fix that. And barring that,
I'm sure the Free Market (TM) will step right up to the plate to make repairs.

It amazes me to hear people think infrastucture doesn't need maintaining. Rule of thumb; As soon as you build it, Mother Nature wants to destroy it and reclaim it.

8. We don't need no stinking infrastructure
What we need is tax cuts and more wars.
