1. I pledge allegiance...
to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all.

That was my, then, five year old's take on it when the American Legion boys made their annual 'flag visit' to his school just after September 11, 2001. I never bothered to correct him.

4. I led the pledge at our county Dem meeting once
I passed around copies I had made from a Coronet magazine that had the pledge illuminated on the inside cover - circa 1947
(you know, the one that got us through WWII)

I said that I would be leading the pledge from this and to please read along

There were a few people who still said "under God." go figure

7. I can, Indeed, believe it
Now, my son, one sharp cookie, is hip to that history and he opts to use his childhood creation to this day. I applaud him.

8. As I understand it, US citizens are not required to pledge allegiance to anything.
I will not say it, ever.

9. I gather you've never attended a tractor pull
At a similar event I attended, a wacky demolition derby, I chose to hang out at the concession area until all that jingoistic patriotic pledge and star spangled crap was completed. Where in the Hell do they get flags that huge?

13. Been to too many damn tractor pulls, stepfather was a John Deere nut, had 20 or so antique ones.
He also had the bumper sticker that says, "Keep working, millions on welfare depend on you.".

I've been verbally attacked for refusing to say the PoA. Fuck those fascist bastards.

They get those flags from ChinaMart!

12. Honor the Texas flag;
I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.

Heh, just kidding ...

My kids do say it every day in school down here, along with the pledge of allegiance to the US flag.
