Or will we get another smooth talking, tousled hair Ole Miss frat boy Republican?

Is DuPree just going through the motions? Is following this race even a worth my time?

I heard DuPree is pro-life. That might net him an extra percent or two from Mississippians, the bulk of whom will always choose a pro-life Republican over a pro-life Democrat.

Please fill me in if you have anything to add.

2. I'm visiting there soon so I'll let you know my impression
when I get back. I'm thinking his chances are slim to none.

3. No because he's black and he's a Democrat. The majority of Mississippi is racist republicans.

6. He's black? He's got no chance then.
Oddly in Mississippi, the Democratic candidate is sometimes more conservative than the Republican candidate (and Republicans are off in far-right looney land), but that doesn't help if you're black.

7. I'm inclined to agree
Although a black Republican might be electable in Mississippi, as being Republican might appear to "un-black" such a candidate in the eyes of white voters. Some white racists would stay home and a few might vote for a white Democrat instead. I don't know it would be close.

Arthur Eaves ran to Haley Barbour's right on a lot of issues in 2007, and it availed him next to nothing, only alienated the small number of liberals in the state whose votes any Democrat would need. White conservatives voted Republican anyway.

4. I voted for him Tuesday.

His only chance in November is if I get to supply the voting machines.

8. I won't be voting for him.
He wants to pass a statewide smoking ban for restaurants and bars -- excluding the casinos, I'm sure. That, combined with his stance on abortion (and I suspect some other important issues), makes him a rather lackluster candidate. I'll be voting third party or not at all in the governor's race.
