Carnahan may challenge redistricting map
— Redistricting didn’t sit well with Rep. Russ Carnahan, who was effectively drawn out of the map by state legislators this spring.

The St. Louis Democrat, who represent’s the former 3rd Congressional District, told reporters on Wednesday that he is running for Congress, and hinted at a legal challenge to the redistricting law.

“I am running for congress next year. I’ve been very clear about that. What’s not clear is what those final congressional lines may look like,” he said on a conference call hosted by the Missouri Democratic Party. “I would say to look out for the second half of the year being courts reviewing those lines.”

The Democrat essentially has three options: Challenge the map, run in the Republican-favoring 2nd Congressional District, or challenge Democrat Lacy Clay in the 1st Congressional District.

“I’m confident I’m going to have a good place to run in, and I intend to do that,” he added.

Carnahan released an internal poll last week that showed him with single digit leads in the second district over two Republicans who have never held public office before.
